Have you tried asking her during a calm moment? I also have PTSD and personally all I need is comfort, suicide statements are common and does feel inevitable in the moment. I'd be happy to talk more with you on PTSD if you'd like.

I was diagnosed with ptsd from my doctor bout 2 days ago. I lost my grand bout a year ago and the loss isn't the main issue. (Though its like the 2nd issue) I was born into a abusive & toxic family and she was my world's rock. My life is a aggressive one now. But as a lot of people say I'm fine. Nah don't say that I'm fine (unconvincing smile) nah I'm f***ing fine!!!!

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd share that I've had the most help from EMDR therapy. It's a lot of emotional work but I feel like it's the only thing helping me. I encourage you try it if you haven't.

Any of you can't take load noises
I have an exaggerated startle response. Whenever there is a loud, sudden noise, I jump immediately. Which is quite embarrassing sometimes. I guess it’s funny for people watching me. I don’t get upset by it, but I have been misunderstood in public once. I was in a grocery store and some kind of alarm went off. I think it was one of those times where the shoplifting alarm went off for no reason; nobody was even near the sensor. Before the staff got the alarm off, a fellow shopper had his phone start ringing and I muttered an obscenity or two. The guy was like, geeze someone is touchy today! And I was mortified. I don’t want to seem angry but when two loud noises surprise me in a short time, I can get disoriented.

There’s things in the list of symptoms that leave me thinking “but that’s just how life is.” Either the very concept of PTSD is bunk, or I was right to be diagnosed with it.

Things have been very wrong for a very long time, and it’s left me with a very warped sense of what’s normal.

When I was in the army, one of my fellow soldiers was diagnosed with PTSD. He had been in combat and was hospitalized after returning from the battlefield. He suffered from chronic insomnia and intrusive thoughts. He spent nine months in the hospital and was deemed partially fit for military service.

As for my own PTSD, which I was diagnosed with last spring, the psychiatrist didn’t think much of it during the medical board. And during my time in the army, I was overwhelmed by so many new challenges. I was literally falling off my feet from exhaustion, and I didn’t have time to think about past psychological trauma. That’s why the PTSD subsided.

Now I’m back in civilian life. I don’t have any acute symptoms of PTSD, but sometimes thoughts of the past come back.

I think new experiences are beneficial for treating PTSD. I hope this will be helpful to someone.
