Just tell me not to give up. Just say that things can change. I want to just give up. I have to start trying, or I'll be ruined. I can't find some faith or some way to believe that it can get better. That's illogical. Still I keep thinking the worst.

The details don't matter. Nothing truly awful is happening to me. It's irrational depression. It makes no sense. I keep thinking that being dead would be better than this. It's hard for me to even move. There is no one at all I can talk to.

Yes, things can change, for the better.
Just keep on, don't quit

I understand and relate 100% to what you're saying. Depression is an irrational disease when you think about it. Like you, I haven't really had anything horrible happen to me. By all external measures, life has actually been pretty good. Depression doesn't care about such things though.

I will say not to give up. Things can change. You never know what the next moment will bring.

Things can always change, and until they do the mystery remains whether for good or worse. As much as possible try to make the change be for the better. I mostly approach things with a take a chance view and see how things develop and what I can do to help them along for better for me.
Thank you. I must start doing little things that will help. It's been hard to even brush my teeth.

@UrbanRose.....Don't give up. Things can get better. You can be the agent of that change.
Do something that's useful and also doable, that can be started and finished and become an accomplishment. Then do something else.....get in a habit of moving. Depression seems to be all about not moving. Exercise and walking are good treatments too.

I've stayed home in my apartment for days not seeing another human being. This isolation feels hard, but I hesitate to go out anywhere. I want to get up the ambition to look in to things that I could do. It's hard to start moving.

I will try to do that. I could start by cleaning up in the kitchen. For days, I have a hard time sticking with anything.

I know I can't sit back and wait for something good to happen. I have to do what I need to do to take care of my life. This has felt awful.

Me too. Depression is irrational by definition. If we’re upset because something truly bad is happening, then that’s not depression, but a rational response to a shitty situation.

I’m not giving up, at least not yet. In that i feel like I can also encourage you to not give up, either. I want to give up, believe me. I’m still here for today. Just one breath at a time.

Well, Depression made me lay on my sofa for nearly 8 months. But then there was a point I had to decide. I did not give up - and you should not give up too. It will get better. You do move. Next time just use it to do something - whatever it is. All of us here had similar experiences and we listen to you. Being alone is sometimes unavoidable. Start with small things - shopping, cleaning.... Medication?

Thanks for posting. I'm glad you were able to decide to not give up. I did nothing again today. At least I should wash dishes tomorrow.

Something sad happened to me yesterday. Another rejection. I guess time will heal it.

I'm not back to normal, but the misery is a good bit less. I didn't get dressed until 4 o'clock this afternoon. Morning is my hardest time. No motivation.

The crying and sobbing has stopped. I'm accepting that I will be completely alone Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Like last year, my youngest sister may not even call me. I don't know why she has ghosted me. But I don't think I'll cry about it again. It's just a reality to be adjusted to.

I lived like a recluse the past few years, so I'm not connected to other people. That's my own fault. I have to let the sadness of being so alone motivate me to get out of the house and join with others in doing something worthwhile. I want to believe that I can overcome this isolation. A part of me doesn't believe that and feels hopeless. I must not give in to that.

Years ago I moved far, far from my place of origin with my boyfriend. He and I had no family or friends in this place we relocated to, but we liked it here. We tended to keep to ourselves. Three years ago, he died, after a very long sickness. So that left me very much by myself. I adjusted to the loss reasonably well, but this holiday season that has fallen apart. I spend too much time in bed watching videos. The bed is a warm cacoon. It feels nice, but it's like I'm just waiting to die.

I am grateful for the encouraging posts above. Getting a response from another human makes me feel less dead. I've always recovered from depressive tailspins in the past. I should be able to again, but this time it's very slow.

Now I must finish straightening up my apartment. That way, I might still have time to put up my Christmas tree. I have the makings of a beautiful Christmas tree. I'll feel sad, if I don't put it up.

Good that you found some strength. It is sad to be alone - but sometimes unavoidable. Just be happy what you have. You know. I live in an apartment without heating and despite global warming, I can see my breath in the apartment like outisde (and even here in Spain it's very cold at night). I did not put up a tree, but I bought a lot of candles, which I will light. I will try to buy myself a present too.
To cheer you up, have a look on this one here:

Cheer up: It can only get better.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my partner after a long illness too. I still cry about it sometimes. It's been 7 years now. after 3 years it was still raw.
I'm sorry for your loss also. Last year, when I was sick in the hospital, I cried, thinking how comforting my boyfriend would have been, if he were still with me. Instead I was alone. I recovered from my illness. Right now my health is fine. Mentally, I did get past the initial grief, which had me not wanting to live. I smile inside when I think of him now. I hope you get to that place. Grief is very tough. It can lead to depression, which I think is even worse. Grief is painful, but depression is disabling.
