I believe depression comes from fear, and can hang around long after we have forgot what caused the fear. Since we can't remember what started our fear we need to forget the depression also. I believe the best way to do that is through affirmations. We tell ourselves we have nothing to fear. Every thing is fine, there is nothing to fear by doing affirmations. You can make up your own affirmations or find some you like on the Internet.

We humans live in a world filled with fear of many things, but we don't have to buy into it. We can be in the world, but not of the world. Recognizing this is only a temporary assignment. We are always watched over and loved. Relax and feel the love that surrounds you daily. Love

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I tend to tell myself that nothing will help. It is wrong to assume that.
I'm always reminded of the old quotation, which I have heard attributed to many, but first by an organic chemistry prof., that "Whether you think I can, or I can't... Either way, you're probably right." -Abraham Lincoln. This, is probably very appropriate for some of the things with which you are now faced with: both in terms of the professional & personal side of things for you. Yes, telling yourself that nothing will help, I can't remember if that's a negative distortion, or not? But whatever it is - whatever you'd want or like to call it (because it almost doesn't even matter) you seem to see & understand full well how it affects you. And does not really do anything much pertaining to the helping, or helpful side of the plate - so to speak~ // You see when we play these messages on repeat, over time, whether or not we truly actually believe them - on the surface. What happens is, or what can tend to happen, is that it begins to seek in & take root in our selves. And therefore it grows or manifests itself into something almost buried from deep within. So that we believe it in our bones, our spirit from within, and so on & so forth...

sorry to hear your pain. you have posted on my situation and i greatly appreciate it. i can relate with the reclusion and the paralyzing depression. im just now getting the energy to try and post on other peoples problems. before my wife blindsided me with the divorce i was already in a depressed state about my disability. my wife knew this and just piled on with the divorce. i felt before the bombshell so alone because my disability didnt allow me to get out much but i still had my wife to look forward to now i feel totally alone. there are days where i feel numb to the point that i just stare at nothing unable to move. the one thing that has helped has been medication. i was diagnosed with a panic disorder and depression at 21 im 52 now. they put me on antidepressants and klonopin which is a benzodiazepine. it greatly helped and when i was able to come off of the klonopin after a few years. a year ago i started having panic attacks again i think my subconscious was picking up on my wife changing her feelings towards me. after she said she was divorcing me last december i had to up my dosage on the klonopin. i dont think i could have made it without having that medication to take the edge off. honestly i dont think i would still be here without it and forums like this. maybe you could consider meds to help take the edge off? my mood has gone from wanting to die every waking moment to changing hourly. its progress i guess but all i want to do is sleep and avoid reality. youre not alone with your feelings and im here for you if you want to talk. *console
