Have you ever witnessed something that you found oddly impressive? Im not talking about someone lifting a heavy weight or showing off an awesome skill, im talking about things that normally wouldnt be considered "impressive" but by some circumstance or other, you have to admit it was kinda was this time...

Here is my example:

My boss hates flies, he has some kinda fear of one buzzing around the office, and since I casually batted one out of the air a while ago I am now "fly hunter". So when a BIG-ASS fly buzzed into the office today I grabbed some cardboard, made a simple paddle and went to stun the fly. Normally a fly is instantly stunned for over a minute by a proper thunk from a cardboard paddle, so I didnt expect any issues. THIS fly however, dodged twice, which made me get serious, I then caught it with a satisfying thunk and it went flying... and continues flying... so I got it again thunk, and it went to the floor, but before I could scoop it up it was airborn again, so i put my back into it and THUNK it went flying FAR, and into an open toilet and into the bowl. I put some TP over it and flushed. Not only did it somehow stay in the bowl AND free itself from the TP, it managed to use water tension to STAND ON THE WATER so it didnt drown! WTF!?

Now fly vs man is not a fair fight, and it had already FAR exceeded the limitations of its species, so whatever my boss's thoughts on the subject, I had to hand it to the fly and concede defeat and carefully save this water-logged fly and put it outside into the sun to dry off. It had more than earned recognition, and by the time I was walking away it was already off.

Bloody terminator fly... oddly impressive.

I guess you'd have to admire its will to live, but I'm concerned that it will now breed terminator flies throughout the UK.

That is a price we pay for fair play, man vs fly isnt something a trapped fly can win, and fair play demands a possible win condition for both parties, so if a mere fly managed to impress me, it has also earned its victory.

So, you seen anything "oddly impressive"?

Well, it's oddly impressive that a man would have such devotion to fair play and the ability to see virtue in an insect that he would scoop one out of the toilet.

I've rescued insects before, but never with such a feeling of admiration.
