The Ebay Game

I dont see this anywhere so I figured I would drop this in The Gameroom

The concept is simple. Plenty of good stuff is sold on ebay, but there is always one who tries to pass something off as better than it is, so the game is to decide on a shit item, and try to advertise it as something way better than it is, and others have to guess what it is.

My favourite example:

Lol aw sorry Dante, I tried to think of some kind of funny enough thing to post here, I think I do have a pretty good imagination but this goes beyond what I am very good at “thinking of” I guess that makes me a bit dumb or slow or something lol. I think I maybe just do better with simpler games. This is a GREAT idea for a game though and I am sure there’ll be lots of people here who can think of all kinds of funny “overselling” kinds of things. I even asked google for some “help” on thinking of things (was maybe even just gonna “link to it”) but ya I didn’t have much luck finding anything.

Lol, I know what that is! Never had one cos I’m awesome like that (nope, was just too broke to ever own one) but I guess to be fair to myself, I think they were kind of a “90’s” thing right? Well I was alive of course, but was a kid and teen a bit at that time, so was maybe also a bit too “young” to have one (plus I didn’t have a rich mommy or daddy, and certainly didn’t have “overprotective” or worrying about me much kinds of parents, quite the opposite. By the time I had my own kind of “communication device” of my own, I was much later teens, and pagers weren’t really used much (if at all, lol) anymore. Anyway I remember seeing that some people had them and thinking they were kinda cool)

Don't worry, @JMG ~it's requiring some extra-thought process of me, as well! But that is because I have almost never even used Ebay... Shocker, I know (what with me being the technical wizard that I am, and always up to speed on the latest trends... etc.) / so, don't worry. Have no fear. You can just make something up, I'm pretty sure. And not have to worry about evaluating it, or judging how good you think it is (or isn't). See if it was just about things I knew about for sale, like say guitars, then it would be easy as pie! But nobody, who is not - "in the know," would know? Or get the joke(s)! So, anyway(s). . . I digress, yes~ it 'might,' be easier if we could take, or use actual ads. But then, that would probably not be good, for the sake & purposes of... morals, ethics & whatnot (still funny, though). However, it would not be in the spirit of the intended author's original post, or point, shall we say? If I'm not in fact, misinterpreting, that is~ / (never any guarantees, there!). :^)

Aw ty MrB for the reassurance about that, I appreciate it! And ya, I can’t even use the “never using ebay” reasoning there, cos I’ve been a member on there for 21 years! I haven’t bought all that “much” overall, but probably close to 100 items or so over that time.

Anyway ya I think you are right that this game isn’t meant to be a “copy and paste overselling items” from there or anything like that, think it’s meant as “come up with it all” and also make it funny. Neither of those are strengths of mine. Figured it was better to not post one that is kinda like “huh?” and that would only bore people anyway, at least the 2 things that have been “oversold” in here have both been very funny I’m sure more people who are better at those kinds of things will be along soon. Once more people have done them then perhaps I will “get ideas” a bit, everything I’ve tried to think of on my own I have not been able to do it in a way where it would make sense and be funny.

Thanks again for the reassurance about it though, if I end up thinking of something funny enough that makes sense I’ll definitely post it here

Its a particular type of creativity, never forget you arent dumb because someone else can do something you cant (or cant easily), because you can do things they cant. Everyone has their thing.
