Hi,

I was just curious if anyone here was vegan, and if they could share any (easy to make) vegan recipes - or any substitutes that they found helpful. I was advised to try 'Veganuary' by a colleague who is quite the hardcore Vegan and enjoys encouraging others, but when I brought it up to my doctor, he actually suggested that it might be beneficial to do the month as a way to encourage me to actually try food and to heal some of my bad relationship with food if I'm doing a 'challenge' and then also increasing my pallet - whether I wanted to continue the vegan lifestyle would obviously be up to me, but it might get me into the habit of making meals and planning them. I figure at this point, it's worth a shot.

For anyone who doesn't know, I'm an anorexic and have been battling with food for 13 years or more. I generally can go multiple days without eating, and have noticed a major increase in this pattern and relationship with food this year and have ended up hospitalised a few times. I also generally have a fear for having big heavy meals and can get triggered by feeling 'too heavy' into going to the gym for hours. I don't really eat much food anyway, let alone meats and dairy so I figure this should be quite easy - the hard part for me would be making sure I do eat to start with.

So, if you've tried this or are going through trying it - maybe we can share stuff here, any challenges, new recipes or findings, or if you're finding it beneficial from your own personal point of view or not - would be really interesting to hear. Basically - help! Hah.

Mods, please do your beautiful thing if this is in the wrong forum. I went for 'Self Care and Healthy Lifestyles' from a personal viewpoint and in no way suggest that being vegan is the way forward for everyone etc. :)

Thanks in advance!

Whilst not a vegan myself, someone was asking me a while back about any good vegan recipes. So I stumbled across this link. Hope there'll be something there of interest. Best of luck, hope you'll find it beneficial :)

There's another site, called "Thug Kitchen" which as the name suggests is slightly hardcore but is vegan recipe based.

Thanks Ash! Only seeing these replies now. I'll definitely look them up.

Day 1 and I haven't eaten for over 24 hours, so I'm not doing very good with the resolution. I am however putting in a big grocery delivery order with all my new vegan stuff so that's something! I'll definitely try out some of these recipes.

Lux, the fact that you're placing together a grocery delivery of vegan ingredients is definitely something and shows that you're moving ahead with your resolution. Breaking any types of behaviour which one has been accustomed to over the years is rarely an overnight thing. For some they do it in manageable steps, others will jump straight into a "changed environment." Different processes work for different people, so the important thing is finding one which suits and works for you, of which I wish you the best in succeeding with.

And any decent recipes you come across, make one and send us it through the post ;)

I don't remember all the schematics of my fave recipes with one exception: 3/4 cup cashews, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 3/4 tsp salt, 3 Tbsp nutritional yeast. Throw in blender, crush for a couple minutes. This makes super easy parmesan cheese sprinkles and I use it for everything. Pasta, pizza, sandwiches, salads, it's delicious and I use it frequently!
