I caved last night and smoked a whole pack. I convinced myself that that would be better than smoking for a couple of days. Never mind back to day one today

Don't beat yourself up about it...just take this as a new day one. One thing that I am finding helpful is not to have any cash so I would have to use debit card which is silly perhaps but seems to help...

It happens. It's done now and the good news is that you have none left to tempt you. The thing that's helped me is when the craving is really intense, I tell myself I can have one but I have to wait two hours. A couple more hours isn't going to kill me. And when two hours is up, the craving has normally dissipated.
just ate some chocolate instead-not good I know but better than smoking
I think I'm actually eating less chocolate than before. Now that I don't go into the shop for a pack of ciggies I don't also buy the accompanying chocolate or sweets. I feel quite sorry for that shopkeeper, he's probably lost his best customer..

You give me hope about the cravings for chocolate lessening....

One thing I try to remember is giving into a massive craving does not make the craving go away. It only will make the next craving that much stronger. So while it is ok to have cravings and I might think I want a cigarette(I really don't) I won't smoke one anyways. Also I think about how those fuckers have labs where they add stuff to make it as addictive as possible and I don't want to be a victim to them. It really is a life or death struggle if you have smoked a lot this is serious. I'm only 26 but I could tell my insides weren't feeling right. Coming up on 2 months mostly smoke free and I feel my throat swelling is starting to go down and my resting heart rate is a lot lower. I have made it this far before but I really want this to be the last quit I wanna be healthy.

They haven't lessened. They're probably equal to the cravings for the ciggies. But I can't go into that shop for one of them and come out without the other too. I'm actively dieting too. Nick thinks I'm crazy to do both at once but if I don't actively try to restrict my calories now when the urge to resort to snacking instead I'll be even bigger and have a harder job a few months down the line.

So have made it to Day 16...managed to do a stressful phone call without a cigarette yesterday just ate some chocolate instead-not good I know but better than smoking...the desire to smoke hasn't gone away but know that I don't want the last 16 days to be in vain...
chocolate is not good but it's a lot better than smoking. 16 days that's awesome keep up the hard work, you're past the worst part. mike *hug

Now I need to think of ways to help my sister quit. I think she's up to a pack a day now.
You can't make her quit, eh. She's got to decide to do it for some reason or another then just do it.
I had a good reason (someone doesn't want it in the house, basically) and dropped it immediately and haven't gone back. That's a high motivator not to fuck it off now.
I transitioned off with a (disposable) vape pen.. 2 of them over 3 weeks time.. but the fact is that actually just quitting cold turkey is the most effective method overall for the best results. I didn't want to act like a huge cock and end up with a breakup or end up on the street though. haha

seriously tell her about me and people a lot worse off than me. remind her how much it costs how she smells of cig smoke etc. be diplomatic. and offer to help, and of course use stories from this thread like how much better you breath good luck. mike *hug

Yeah and mostly because no one can smoke around my nephew. The last time he was around cigarette smoke, he had a bad asthma attack and had respiratory failure. So I guess that's another good reason for her to quit.

She will have to quit when she is ready. I mean I have COPD, among a number of other health issues. I haven't quit yet. I know the risk, I know what it's doing to me. I still smoke. Nothing anybody says could convince me to quit. I'll quit when I'm ready.

Well at Day 19....hanging in there but the desire to smoke seems to be increasing alas as have started classes for the quarter and also have the 1 hour drive one way to there and back twice a week....but so far haven't bought any cigs. Coming really really close will admit but given myself goal of end of this month and then next month etc. So maybe with daily/weekly/monthly ongoing goals will lose the desire to want to smoke.

Finding that when have the cravings all can think about but just trying to deep breath through it. It isn't as easy as Carr seemed to say so probably am still doing this by willpower rather than by cognizent choice...but either way determined to keep going...

Keep going @Kiwi2016 you're doing SO well.
I agree with Mike, if the cravings are really strong maybe a bit of nicotine replacement would help. I've seen something advertised here called 'Quick Mist" it's a mouth spray that gives an instant hit. I haven't used it so I don't know how good it is. I do like the little lozenges as they take a while to dissolve although I've only used a few this time - mainly when I get into the car.
