• IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Please read THIS THREAD about a rebrand for SF.

when you're depressed what makes you feel better:

Things that make me feel better....
Sleep! When I am extremely despondent, I find that my brain needs extra sleep to get away from all the bad feelings and life circumstances.

Art...even if I just take watercolors and a brush to some paper, just mark making is good.

Stitching...I love Japanese sashiko stitching and the repetitiveness of it is soothing and Zen-like. It requires no thought or particular skill, anyone can do this, it is only a running stitch with thick white thread (sashiko or perle cotton) on indigo fabric. Even if I only stitch some lines on cloth napkins or whatever, it is very soothing to me.

My cat...she always manages to make me laugh. She is non-judgmental and so loving and having her own set of neurosis and anxieties brings us even closer together. She is the neediest kitty I have ever had. But I love her dearly.

Walking is so good but when I am as depressed as I am right now, I feel like I am nearly catatonic and moving is so difficult. I don't want to see people in my neighborhood for fear of breaking down into tears, plus I have social anxiety and do not enjoy people all that much. I think I am turning into a recluse most of the time, which is worrying my husband.

Acts of kindness.

If I made someone feel good, then I will feel good too.
A week or two ago I helped an old lady grab something from the upper shelf at a grocery store.

I don't want to brag about good deeds or anything, because I feel like good people don't need to advertise kindness, just merely show it.

But still, little things like these help me. Complete me, even if it is but a temporary feeling.

This sounds a bit bad, but I like watching those youtube videos of people failing at the Gym, but it tends to be arrogant, over confident people who think they're Superman or Bruce Lee.
lol at least you aren't as bad as me, I sometimes I like to look at a real gore site. and a tv show about people going and a lot of times they go because they do stupid shit. so yea i'm worse lol

I can relate actually, sometimes i get into a mood where i start binging those "Instant karma compilations" on Youtube for some justified schadenfreude.

Some short term things that help me are:
•Drawing. It can either be on paper or digitally, but for me, paper works better.
•Listening to music. I like music that is more energetic. I really enjoy rock and I also like dubstep and trap. It makes me feel more at ease if I’m feeling stressed, too.
•Watching funny stuff on YouTube. I also watch cute cat and animal videos when I feel horrible. It helps a LOT for me.
•Talk to my friends. I haven’t told anyone (apart from this site) that I’m suicidal, but even talking to my friends and (sometimes) forcing myself out of the house when I’m especially terrible makes me feel way better.
•and on the contrary, being alone. Sometimes I just like to do all of the things above alone in my room, maybe wrapped in a blanket.
Some long term things that help me are:
•Spending time with my family and friends. I know that I already listed that in my “short term” list, but I was mostly talking about when I feel more bad than usual.
•Buying a new video game, new poster, new anime figure, new headphones, etc. It makes me want to be invested in the thing that I bought for a long time.
•Pets or animals. I’m more of a dog person, if I’m being honest. Having a pet that loves you, no matter what the pet is, is amazing and makes me happy.
...I can’t think of anything more right now, but there’s deffinitely more! I might update this later.

- Going for a drive listen to music

The only problem i have is at night when im tired is when my depression comes back and makes me think suicide most of the time. Its been very tough especially not having anyone to talk bout it.

  • Drawing, but only if I have time. If I can't have any time, things will be worse.
