when you're depressed what makes you feel better:

pretty much anything that can keep me focused on the present, outside world rather than my typical internalization of all of my emotions and thoughts. it also helps if i'm comfortable enough around the people to be honest, i find that if i am not comfortable and i end up trying to be something i'm not for the group, every time i do stuff with them again i feel extremely uncomfortable as i'm never sure who i am, or how i should present myself. having something "to do" helps alot, too. like going over to a friends just to "hang out" i can't really do, but if i go to play Rockband, or do homework or see a movie or something, its alot easier to be there and i don't feel as apprehensive and "third-wheel-ish".

Im a little bit all over the place when it comes to this, it seems to be that I always do something different, though usually I end up playing music, going for a walk by the lake, stargazing, or getting in touch with some old friends. Either that, or I just start doing something productive, like cleaning. I found that now that I live on my own, cleaning my entire apartment usually makes me feel much better afterwards. Some good comedy movies work pretty good too.

Usually make a list of attainable future goals, things that I could actually do, and try to follow through with a few of them, even something as small as 'get out of bed on Wednesday and go for a long walk/get some exercise', or things as big as 'find out how much it costs to go to Montreal for 2 weeks and attempt to save'.

Climbing on a mountain. Walking does't really do it because my head is still full of all the sad stuff in my life but when I'm actually climbing all that is in my head is the thought of where the next foothold or handhold is. This stops me dwelling on the pain and for a while brings relief. When I get to the top the view is a help as well. Shame is that by the time I get down physically it's the same mentally.Lots of snow and ice helps because I have to concentrate more but that seems to happen less and less here in the UK. Helping other people is good too because that also takes me out of myself. Chatting here is good as well because it makes me realize that I'm not alone.

Always interesting to observe that when able-bodied people are going through rough times and feeling down, the stock answer/standard response is "well, things could be worse, at least you've got your health, you aint in a wheelchair etc", blah de blah. The implication being that physical disability, since it tends to be permanent, is far worse than mental health probs, which are largely transient and curable through medication.

Tis further interesting to note therefore that the 'realm of suicide' is largely inhabited by able-bodied people with depression, when in fact people with disabilities are twice as likely to commit suicide than able-bodied folk.

Alcohol helps....but only for a few hours, and if you drink too much it can make it worse.
My friend who also suffers from mental health problems, always cheers me up,cause it makes me feel im "not alone"
A good film can sometimes help to,to block out the pain.at least for a couple of hours...but not always..
And music .........
