I always had a feeling like there was something wrong with me. It wasn't uncommon for me to get books on psychology and read them or try to read them. I did so hoping I would find something and go "that's what my problem is!" It's also the reason I got a BA in psychology.
Seriously, I am laughing. I did the same thing! Most people who go into the Psych field do so to try and understand themselves better. Or so, I've been told. It actually makes me think that there are many people searching for answers and we're all here together. We're just trying to figure it out.

So glad you wrote that. Hope you are smiling right now!

Yeah. On the first day of class, every psychology professor says "I know why you're here. You want to learn psychology because you want to know why you're so fucked up." And then everyone in the class laughs. And they laugh because they know he's right. I remember in college I would ask other psychology students why they chose psychology. They gave the exact same answer as me. I could probably count on one hand how many gave a different answer. It is kind of funny when you realize other people are a lot like you.

Re: direction in life with kids. Yeah, this too.
I was on my way to needing another year of high school when I had my kid. I switched schools to one where I could work at my own pace, sped up intensely & got all my work done in order to graduate on time. Had my son in the beginning of senior year. Got all A's THAT year after having a grade point average that started with a decimal before that. Ok not that bad but real close! I got all the "direction" I needed. I realized I couldn't be a freaking loser anymore. I needed to be able to feed this kid forever & not be a dipshit.

I'm liking that all of us come from different ages, perspectives and so on...Yet, we are brought together by the stripped down feeling. We just have to stay connected to each other. Thank you you all for your posts to such an interesting question. Thanks JDot for posting it!
