First, if these cookies are oblong and maybe 7 or 8 cm long by 3 or 4, then a definite yum. (Sometimes with sprinkles and often found in italian bakeries).

what is winter melon? I'm going to say no because I don't know what it is.

WM is a melon I believe found in various points in asia. Google says it's sweet but I think flavorless describes it better. It's fairly huge and is used in chinese cooking to help thicken soup but don't take my word for it. There are asian SFers here who can be more precise.
