How Are You Feeling Right Now?

Had a horrible dream about my previous relationship. Was staying with her sister and I kept falling asleep and had cats kept on cosying up with me. The person wasn't in the dream, it was made clear that they weren't, I was hoping for the sister to see her at some point. I hate these dreams, I keep having them, not nightly anymore but still getting them.

Besides that I'm feeling tired and lazy.

I am in pain. I cut down my steps yesterday, the plan was a few days of less load then try a small run. My body has other ideas. Whenever I try to sit down or stand up I get sharp, needle like stabbing pains in a very, very sensitive area (iykyk) and as much as AI tells me this is nerve irritation and isn't screaming at me to go to a doctor (unusual for AI!), my mind just can't divorce panic and dread from that kind of pain. Besides the doctors are all shut, the only place open would be the walk in centre where I would have to sit without food or water for 9 hours before maybe seeing some stressed GP who'se been single handedly dealing with walking wounded all day and just prescribes me ibuprofen (I've got that and stronger so will try it soon if I can bear to move from the sofa). I'd had a few days of no serious stabbing pains in the left hip. Then it was pains in the right knee. Now it seems to have moved to the middle/groin area. There's a part of me that would just rather be completely gone than have to deal with this.

I might need or benefit from medication but I fear doctors and pharmaceuticals.
I think that is entirely justified. Doctors sometimes have the interests of their patients in mind, but it’s by no means a given. Pharmaceutical companies never do. I think this is a historical fact, at least in the US.

I do happen to get a benefit from meds, and the severity of my depression is such that multiple pdocs have told me that I should be on meds for as long as I am confined to my current hardware. So I think it’s a delicate balance, especially if you’re prone to getting side effects. @seabird One thing that occurred to me about your condition is that I see a lot of physical activity worked into your lifestyle when I read your updates. I also read words that I interpret as describing a deep sense of loneliness, which I fear is the rule now, especially since covid.

I bring these two things up because my understanding today is that exercise and social interaction combined will give at least as much benefit as the pills but without the side effects. I’m not saying that this is definitely a good or bad idea for you, but if you’re already doing everything you can from the lifestyle and self care work but still feel stuck, then I think it couldn’t hurt to run that by a pcp or pdoc. I will offer this suggestion with my “unsolicited advice guarantee.” If it doesn’t work, I will refund you twice the purchase price. :D*halo*hug

Thank you for replying 😎 😺

Yes, in the past, and know I'll probably feel worse when I go through a 4 hour queue to be either told to go to A&E or take painkillers and rest/book GP on Tuesday. I did do their web triage which came up with take care of yourself at home lol. If I was passing blood or anything I'd be at A&E, but urinalysis is clear on that front so 99 per cent certain muscular or psoas related - which is not an emergency but not something anyone can do much about at the moment. I was booking a private physio this week anyway so will go ahead with that. Just wasn't the start I wanted to my 3 days off, as things have been stressful enough without throwing pain into the mix and taking away my walking. Painkillers and rest sort of helping, just not helping the anxiety of my brain painting all kinds of extreme scenarios....

Won't be able to see my little cat tonight.

Well, that sucks. I am sorry to hear the cat will be missing a human friend. Also that you will be indoors involuntarily.
I bet you if we had a competition about generating worst-case scenarios, it would be a draw. But it would also be an epic battle, lol!
I have never gotten around to this, but at one point I thought it would be cute to get a bumper sticker made that said something like, "Worrying works! 99% of the things I dread NEVER EVEN HAPPEN!" Of course the CBT behind that is to look for how often the worst case scenario actually happens. IDK if that helps but I thought at least the slogan would be amusing. Take what you can use, ofc.

I did a hard thing today and I feel good about that. I was invited to a birthday party of a friend who I admire very much. He's turning 75, and if I have half the sense of humor and grace he emanates at that age (on the off chance I even make it that far), then I'd be very pleased with my life at that point. So we are not intensely close, but we have had some good conversations and I really like getting his perspective on things, especially the things that I make myself nuts over. And of course the people in his orbit are also like minded. In short, it was an eclectic group of people and we were comparing and contrasting various ideas about the human condition from Jungian psychology, Buddhism, secular Japanese and Western philosophies, and so on. My kinda people, in other words!

However - now I'm on edge. I feel like I'm physically in danger although I don't have a clue from what direction the threat might come. Maybe a scorpion will sting my toe. Maybe a puma will blindside me. I guess both couldn't happen because the two don't exist in the same habitats that I am aware of. Neither of them exist my habitat, either so I think I'm truly safe. I just wish it felt that way, too.

I thought of another thing that I have learned along my own psoas and illio-everything going haywire after a hip injury. I'm procrastinating, so of course I just have to share this right now!

The thought i had is the possibility of somehow lactic acid building up from your exercise that got stuck. When I get that feeling, which I'm going to guess is familiar to you, I check on my hydration and electrolytes. Electrolyte depletion is something I recognize by nausea, dizziness/vertigo, and feeling "off," but so off that I'm not sure I should be standing up because I'm in too much danger of fainting which could result in injury. In my experience, grabbing a pint of water and following that with a sports drink reliably sets me right again. My body will tell me when I've had enough. Sometimes electrolytes + sugar + water tastes really friggin good. Other times, it tastes like it belongs in an IV bag and not my mouth!

I am grateful for having, at least with this event, closure. The car wreck episode's required series of interaction with an insurance complany rep is done, and the lingering anxiety around vehicles has reduced to a mostly manageable level. Thank goodness ffs: no more phone calls (🤮) with insurance people, though I'll not believe in the compensation until it's in hand. Anyway. There's a subtle sense of breath coming easier.
