My beloved pets

#41
I still miss my Oscar cat who died 15 years ago. I had him for 14 years and he was the best cat ever - playful, extremely affectionate lap sitter who loved to be held. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and would visit my neighbors who all loved him. Long-haired tuxedo cat with a comical half-"mustache." I dream about him constantly. I really hope to see him in a happy afterlife.

the dog sanctuarys in the UK won't let me have a rescue dog because of my age,I asked about could I have an elderly but no
I don't think that's right that they won't let you have a dog.

You might be able to get a dog from a private owner though, or maybe volunteer at a shelter.

My heart goes out to you

I agree. I can see why they might be concerned that you might die or become incapacitated, but plenty of people who aren't elderly can have that happened. My friend died unexpectedly at age 36. Do they not allow anyone with a mental or physical illness to own a pet???

One practical thing I do (even though I have a husband - but I'm paranoid about what would happen to our cats if we were both in a car accident or just couldn't make it home one day) is use one of those automatic-refill food bowls and water bowls. I make sure they are always full. I especially recommend these to anyone who lives alone, just in case.

The photo is of a water bowl, but they have food bowls like this too.

thank you for your way of putting things. You have done the right thing by bringing another rescue dog into your loving home,my first rescue dog Rex lived to 19yrs old,his kidneys wouldn't work anymore so I promised Him sorry cant write anymore,my eyes are leaking,73yrs old,the dog sanctuarys in the UK won't let me have a rescue dog because of my age,I asked about could I have an elderly but no.thank you for your words again
Yes, rescues are the best as there are so many unwanted pets. Here in the US they have just started at least in California that pet stores can only offer rescues. My heart breaks for you that the UK wont allow you to have a dog due to your age...73 seems quite young to me for them to say that. Perhaps is there another alternative e.g. by word of mouth or do you have "Rescues" by breeds like we do here in the US...which are usually older animals who need a loving home? I send you lots of hugs and hope that you are able to figure out a way as pets are so important I feel for all parts of our being.
