I just dont understand the concept of paying the full fee for half the success rate of their services.
The same how I find it appalling how with my next door neighbor’s fixing the kitchen door a few weeks ago… wouldn’t it be wise to have all the parts available and just assemble and install? Why on earth would you do it on scratch within the hallways and his unit like it’s not going to inconvenience anyone.
I suppose in a way, when you think about it, hinging the vets' payment on successfully saving the life of their patient could create perverse incentive structures, the same as it could for human doctors. If their payment is contingent on keeping their patient alive, it could incentivise them to torment their patients in order to technically keep them alive and secure their own paycheque.
Like, i'm not gonna get into right to die arguments, cos i know that's not kosher here, but i respect that about vets, and to a lesser extent, certain human doctors. They're capable of recognising that quality of life matters as much, maybe even more than the sanctity of that life in and of itself. And they're willing to inform those who love the patient in question when protracting the patient's life would just be cruel and torturous.
Imho, doctors need that objectivity, whether they're helping humans or other animals. Which is not to minimise the stress the system puts you under. What you're feeling is totally valid and understandable. Just to say that as much as you may dislike the current system, it's also the reason that you can trust whatever the vet recommends to you is probably is in the best interest of your cat, which is the most important thing of all.
