A friend suggested last night that someone they know well could join a little server with just 5 of us in it.
Thing is, none of us other than them know this person, and it's a very private space, where everyone in it shares a very vulnerable, private side of them.
So i and the others were saying "i'm sure this person is cool, but we would all likely feel more comfortable if we could get to know this friend of yours for ourselves first, we should get in a group chat with them then revisit the question of them joining the server."
A pretty reasonable counterpoint i'd argue.
But this friend of mine started really shutting the whole thing down in response, going "i don't like where this is heading, i've made things difficult, i complicate everything, just forget it."
And i'm genuinely a bit hacked off about it.
Like, what were they thinking was gonna happen?
We'd all just go "sure, none of us know this person whatsoever, but i have absolutely no qualms about them joining such a private, personal space"?
They seemed completely unwilling and unprepared to have an actual conversation about it.
Nobody was saying "no", we were all saying "yes, but", and that apparently still wasn't good enough
And they knew Kaya and i were having a truly shit time already, cos today's the day i have to go back to the UK after our month together, and it breaks both our hearts.
So they picked a time they knew full well Kaya and i are already stressed, threw a stressful question at us on top of that, then threw all their toys out the pram when we tried to have an actual discussion about it.
And then i've got their partner messaging me like "it's all good though Lisa, don't worry."
Like i should be worried about their feelings.
Like they're the one having the truly awful time here.
I mean, they got some light resistance to their idea, but everyone was trying to be accommodating within reason, and find a way to make it work for all parties.
How ever could they handle such a devastating blow?
Get tae fuck.
I'm so over the idea.
Fuck their friend.
If they wanted them to join the server so bad, they shouldn't have completely shot the whole project in the foot like that by acting like a petulant teenager about it.
You are 31 years old ffs, so act like it and accept that the world requires compromise and discussion to make everyone as happy as possible.
