I used to have an entire drawer full of pens that I had collected from various places. This was before tap-to-pay and we had to sign paper credit card receipts. I will almost always stick a pen in my pocket unless I have something blocking me, like when they put a fake flower on the end so that it will not fit. Problem with too many pens is they all dry out and then you have to test 30 goddam ballpoints before you find a working one! OTOH, pen tubes often come in handy for ad-hoc DIY projects around the house/apartment.

My solution was to get a nice, expensive pen. That way I have an incentive to keep track of it, and it would be more likely to actually work when I needed it. I got one that came with a free gel pen on the side and so far I have managed to hold on to both of them. They have a certain place in a holder where I will notice if one goes missing. Another pen I have is a "space pen" I got from a camping goods store. It is pressurized such that it can write upside down, and possibly even underwater. The reason it's called a space pen is that it was developed for use by astronauts in orbit, similar to how we invented Tang drink mix. The pen has been able to work for me even after extended storage so I think it's living up to its promise. I used to have a Kyocera ceramic ballpoint pen, but it got lost unfortunately in between moves.
One of my favorite (probably apocryphal) stories is how millions were spent on developing the space pen and the Soviets just used pencils.

I wish I could start over. Like go back to day one and do everything the right way.
I feel the same way almost all day… I even put a little note on my dry erase board that I put on the inside of my front door. It says, “forgive your past self for not knowing what you know now.”

We can’t expect to know the lesson until we learn it. Most people are doing the best they can with limited knowledge of the way things might turn out. There is a saying that I keep hearing among peers in my profession, “good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from poor judgment.”

IDK, we’re all engineers and/or stats nerds; our sense of humor is an acquired taste, lol.

All models* are wrong. Some models are useful.

* “model” here is in the sense of a mathematical or process model, which is far less exciting than the fashion kind. Both admit of being beautiful, but the former can be really f*cking ugly, too! The aesthetics of mathematical structures takes a degree of understanding and experimentation until you can recognize beauty in abstract concepts.

I received a friend request from a former bully, and I'm not really sure what they could possibly want. I have messaging turned off on Facebook unless I know someone, so they wouldn't be able to explain anyway. But I'm not sure what they want now...if they want to apologize, then why not earlier? They've had more than 20 years to do that. And I've never received any kind of acknowledgment of wrongdoing from people who hurt me in the past. I know that he and his wife were addicted, and that makes me feel sad and also seeing that not all bullies are bad, some are just troubled. Not that it's an excuse, but I understand that more in a way. So just feeling stressed because I am being reminded of the past and not sure what to do.

@LumberJack Interesting. Surely some straightforward mathematical models are right, like the graph for a quadratic equation or the like? What if one had a peer reviewd paper published including a model? here is a portion of a model of an abstract thought from myself. It's neither right nor wrong lol. I'm just musing.

My parents, siblings always laughed. You do something a cartoon character does, they laugh as they help you recover. I fell flat on my face the other day. Really hard. As I lay there, laughter would have been a comfort. Pain would be less. i miss laughing with someone about my cartoon fall. Way better than the blank stare and “you ok.” Being grunted at me.

it seems I am a weirdo.

You don't owe anything to your abusers. Block and move on away from them. It's what my girlfriend taught me.

This is completely unrelated to the post I'm so sorry I can't view profiles to comment but I'm so glad people younger than my love 2000-2012 stuff so much, referring to your username and pfp. Modern day sucks and it makes me happy knowing the youth of today agree things were better back then.
I kinda miss blogging
Mainstream social media sucks. The only mainstream social media I have is YouTube, Discord and that's it. To hell with modern social media, it's time there be movement where people start making their own websites again.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I blocked him because he was hitting on me and all he ever did in the past was make me feel bad about myself. Not dealing with any of that.
