Ok.. Don't know how much response I will get on this thread. But I know there are members from all over so maybe some people will have something to say on this topic. (Sorry if I use the wrong words or say something weird. This is really new to me...)
So I've got this friend from my school rugby team who's a big soccer fan (yep, I'm in the US and will probably never call it football
) I knew that for a while, even before I really talked to him much. But I've been getting to know him a lot more, and the other week I found out he's a Spurs fan. He told me a little bit about some stuff. I'd never heard of that team. But I've always thought soccer was pretty cool. Even if I don't always seek it out to watch, I enjoy it when I go somewhere that's showing it.
When I went out for pizza a couple of days ago with this guy and another friend from the team, the other guy mentioned he was thinking of trying to develop an interest in Premier League and finding a team to watch. I thought that sounded like fun too. The first guy was considering just looking at the team's logos and jerseys and seeing which was most aesthetically pleasing. I wasn't sure how I was going to pick a team.
At first I was sort of thinking of going with Swansea because I have a friend who lives there, and it's kinda cool that they're in Wales and the other teams are English. But I figured I'd probably like it more if I had an actual legitimate reason to like a team. I thought back on how I chose a team to support in the 2014 World Cup. It all came down to the goalkeeper. I saw Guillermo Ochoa have an amazing game for Mexico against Brazil and from then on wanted to watch Mexico to see if he did anything else cool.
So I started talking to my friend about my thoughts, and he told me De Gea was probably the best, and Lloris was pretty good too. I read an article listing the top 10 Premier League goalkeepers for this past season and they were listed as #1 and #2, respectively. I told my friend, and he correctly predicted that Courtois would be third. I was reading up on De Gea. He seemed cool, but then I saw a bunch of people saying he might be going to Real Madrid. (Plus my inner hipster hates the idea of being a Manchester United fan because they're just so mainstream hahaha.) So I moved on to the second on the list. I didn't find anything to dislike about Lloris and saw some videos of nice saves he made. Hopefully he'll be sticking around a while. From what I've read, it looks like he wants to. Guess I'm becoming a Spurs fan just like my friend.
Who's your favorite team and why? Do you have a favorite player? Or just say whatever you want on this subject, and I'll try to keep up, even though I don't understand everything yet.
