So I was talking in Jim's Cafe about how I was thinking about going to the pub I mentioned earlier on this page to watch the first game of the season for Spurs. I wasn't sure about it because I can be nervous about new situations and people. I decided to go, especially since it was the very first game. More crowded than I expected, I guess. but the space was pretty small too. A lot of people were loud and raucous but didn't make me feel weird for being more quiet while watching, which is how I tend to be. Nobody really went out of their way to greet me, but the environment was not at all unwelcoming. There were a few Newcastle fans there, but Pittsburgh Spurs supporters club pretty much owned the space it seems to me. Not sure if Newcastle has their own supporters club in my city... tried to look on their website but the site seems like kind of shit to me. And not worth doing more research beyond that anyway. Just wondering.
So 2-0. Pretty cool I guess. Not as exciting as the first two games I saw but it was great to be able to share it with other people besides just texting my friend the fellow Spurs fan (who told me he'd like to come to one of these meetups at the pub later in the season if he has time.) A lot of the reactions were fun, seeing how my fellow fans feel about certain players. I overheard the guys I was standing behind saying that they feel like they always see Lloris making mistakes, which sounded strange thinking about how I came to choose to support Spurs in the first place. A few of the fans did a chant about Dele Alli when he scored. I mostly didn't understand what they said, but my friend told me how the chant goes when I mentioned to to him afterwards. I was also happy that a large amount of people cheered when Heung Min Son/Son Heung-Min, whatever is the proper way to refer to him (idk guess I'll just call him Sonny like the other fans

) was subbed in during the second half. I love that guy, I'm glad other people feel the same way, and it was great that he has healed enough from his injury to be back for part of the season debut.
I think this is the first time I've seen Lloris get a clean sheet since I became a fan at the end of last season. That's cool for him.
This was definitely worth going to for me. I gave my email address to the one guy who keeps a mailing list, plus I follow the group on Twitter and have liked it on Facebook. So I'll be able to keep up with it. A lot of these games seem to overlap with when I tend to want to go to church, so as much as I would like to always go, I will probably miss some. Plus I need to look closer at my rugby schedule for this fall to see if anything overlaps there. I'm also gonna need to set a little money aside for going to these things so I can buy at least a drink. Today I had money left over from a meeting with a friend that is not happening and a concert that is also probably not happening. But I tend to be really bad with money and get what seems like such a small amount at the beginning of the month. Guess I could've drank more cheaply or maybe not drank at all. I am not sure if there is 100% an expectation that fans who come in to watch the game will buy at least something, but I felt like I should. I tend to be extremely good at passing unnoticed in real life, so I don't doubt that I could've gotten away with not buying anything the whole game, but I bought myself a beer for the second half. I tend to drink super slow so it lasted a while. Got apparently a 20 oz draft of Guinness (looking it up, that seems to be the amount of an imperial pint, but I am not a huge drinker and have no idea for real.) It was $7.25. I could've gotten something in a bottle or can for cheaper, but the only things I wanted from that menu were American, and I thought it'd be weird to be in a pub watching English soc...... err, football, while drinking American beer. I knew I like Guinness and just had to make a choice eventually. They probably would've been just fine with me buying a soda or something instead, but I thought it'd be better with beer. Even though it was pretty early to be drinking for me. But it doesn't matter since I only had one anyway. (Maybe Guinness was the wrong choice too since I was watching English teams rather than Irish, but it is at least the same continent and general area haha. And I definitely wasn't the only one drinking it. Maybe I'm the only one who's thought about it to this extent :/ )
I think my biggest worries was that it would come up somehow that I just became a fan in May and people would judge me for it. But I didn't mention it, no one asked, and I doubt it would have been a problem even if they had. We took a photo outside the pub of all the supporters together with some banner they had. I was standing near the front since I'm so short. I also wondered if people would think it was stupid that I chose the third jersey to buy because like I said before I'd seen some people whining about it on Facebook, like it being ugly and stuff. But there were at least 4 others with the same type.
