you are right @Innocent Forever there are 2 aspects to chronic pain management. 1st of course will be pain relief in other words anything that can lower the pain , the 2nd is dealing with whatever pain that doesn't go away. and i have learned from experience that attitude towards pain and what you lose because of it is as important as the pain meds. of course any person suffering chronic pain will occassionally lose faith and slide back. that's why cbt and other pain management is so important. thank you for a great and informative post

today has been a really bad day for my chronic pain. i woke up at 10 on the 10 scale, which is as bad as it can get. desperate i took pain meds aggressively and now around 5 hours after i am still an 8.

it is a lot worse because i have been out of hydro - morphone for over a week due to back order, all the pharmacies are on backorder. sometimes i wonder if anyone really cares about how much i suffer. pain was so bad i actually snapped at my wife which is rare, of course i apologized.

i can usually deal with the pain but today it's affecting my mental health. my anxiety is through the roof and will probablty need lorazepam. i also wonder sometimes why i'm not strong enough all the time

Oh geez Mike, I’m so sorry….I can’t remember the last time you posted that your pain was this high and long. I’m so glad you have some other stuff at least to take a little bit of the edge off. I know you are doing as much as you can to do whatever you can. Keeping you in my thoughts, I’m about to go into a healing/pain live 2 hour group session with Charlie Goldsmith in about 20 minutes and will hold you in my thoughts if that’s ok while I’m in there. Sending hugs.*hug
Do they give any idea about when the med is anticipated in getting to the nearby pharmacies?

no every pharmacy says the same thing. backordered from manufacturer and they don't give a date. i do have an option but it's expensive

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Different pharmaceutical companies have varying amounts of hydrocodone combined with Tylenol (acetaminophen) in their products.

Hydrocodone (Vicodin) can come in 5mg, 7.5mg or 10mg amounts per pill. The acetominophen component can be 300, 325 or 500 mg. 500mg is what is considered an extra strength dose of Tylenol.
There is a limit of how much acetominophen per 24 hours the body is capable of handing and processing without injury. (liver mostly). For decades the maximum amount of it is no more than 4000mg for an adult. Some have even reduced to prescribing 3000mg total in a day in the past years to prevent injury.
But everyone has individual response so be aware. And most every medication on the market that there is is processed at some point via the liver. Rarely is there one that isn't.

Aspirin is a different kind of nonsteroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID). It's a different chemical, aka acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). They all work differently in the body. Products like Aleve, Panadol, Ibuprofen better than acetominophen for most if problem is related to inflammatory injury or disease.

Oxycodone used to be made without Tylenol, maybe still is, but the Tylenol (acetominophen) supposedly increases the effectiveness of the opiate. And if still made, I don't know what countries and/or states still might support prescribing oxycodone without it being in a combo form.
Thanks @UrbanRose . The secretary, she's not a nurse, told me that's how they come as 325/5 mg. I know there has to be a pain med that wouldn't contain tylenol. I did find my sons (excuse me but he was buying weed from him and i couldn't stop him) i asked they guy he bought weed from a year ago for dilaudid. It didn't do any better at managing pain. I have about 9? meds i take. I thought that everything is processed in the liver. The doc I saw at the second ER said my ozempic wouldn't interfere (it slows digestion of food). He said it doesnt digest....I get really annoyed with drs that assume I'm stupid. Thanks for explaining more.

@1964dodge I'm sorry your med is on backorder. I hope you can get it soon, that much pain must be pure agony. *sadhug
thank you. if it last 2 much longer i have 2 alternatives, 1 immediate release morphine but i don't know if my doctor will prescribe it since i'm on extended release morphine, i know it works or 2 use a lot more mmj. i don't like to use large doses of mmj edibles because it makes me high and i don't like being high and would cost $100 a month and a mmj salve which helps but i would need 2 a month to help compensate which would be another $40 a month. at least i'm fortunate that my state has legal mmj. either way i will find a way to ride out the storm

If you are buying Dilaudid off the street or more accurately what you believe to be Didlaudid your practitioner should present you with the option of rehab for the sake of your safety.
another reason to be cautious about dilaudid ( hydro - morphone ) you get off the street is probably not pure. most of the street versions are knock offs which are laced with fentanyl, which is very dangerous. and if someone is prescribed opioids they have to piss test occasionally which of course they would fail. those reasons are why i could never get them off the street. and of course the risk of arrest and permanently losing what i do get for pain meds is even riskier

I understand about the cost and not wanting to be high. I guess the states is behind canada in legalizing mmj... oh, no you said you can get it.

If i really need sleep i take one gummy but i dont want it to be a habit, sometimes if we can just get to sleep and have peace for a bit it helps.

Its too bad you cant get it prescribed, wait, mmj means medical marijuana right? And your health care wont pay it? 5 bucks a night if i take the 2 that work a bit. Money is a problem as well i know....if you'd let me help you i would. I hope he gets you the immediate release one until the other one comes.

@toomuchreality - I can't remember the question you'd asked earlier in regards the tylenol & tramodol, but as it was explained to me by a emergency rm. dr. one-time, the tylenol accelerates the tramadol, meaning that, or in other words, yo udon't want to take more tylenol thatn is or as prescribed by your physician. I think.. :) (real-helpful, i know!)

Oh, don't worry, I wasn't meaning to imply or that I - was passing any kind of judgment, or anything - in fact if I could get my hand s on some... you'd best / or better believe, that I would! ;D hahaha (but, no so it was actually my or the - er doc who was lecturing my sis, on or for the over-dosing, as in taking just a bit more, of her tylenol, in conjunction w/sort of something like doubling up on only; but still, he felt the pressing need, to stress: or (to) emphasize, that it 'Accelerates it,' (you Idiot..;)) to which; I'm sure, my sister complied, as in : NOT! :D oh goodness, going to court for a traffic ticket, eh? well hopefully just the mere fact that you're showing up will score you major brownie points with the judge, and it will all go well for you. I'd hesitate to say, (a ruling of or) in your favor, for I don't want to jinx it. Unless I just did. In which case, if I could... retract that statement! ;) yes, that was when bob had tracked his psychiatrist down to his vacationing summer home in new hampshire, I bleive & stayed there w/his family (the doctor's!) :D

there are many ways to get through moderate to severe chronic pain more than i can mention.

of course you have pain meds prescribed by your doctor both opioid and non opioid meds. physical therapy if you can tolerate it and you can afford it. there is accupuncture and massage therapy. sometimes meditation can help. and for me just plain tea helps me to calm down.

sometimes people can't get the meds they need for chronic pain. don't give up keep trying to find a doctor or pain clinic that will help you. and make sure you tell your doctor everything you do including meds, supplements and exercise. and please never get meds from the street. it could land you in jail, the hospital, or the morgue. and the most important thing is talk to your doctor and never lose hope. if anyone has suggestions please add to this list, as long as it is legal
