Re: the ones who love you - yes, it is quite true.

In some ways, it is a real pain having R. in the way when I have decided to put an end to my life. But looking at the years, knowing you are loved unconditionally by someone in real life is trememdously important.
Not everyone has this luxury. The luxury to ignore the love, perhaps.

I have AIDS, and some liver trouble. I was already suicidal as a young man. I have several times made myself ready, not in a suicidal gesture, but as a way of preparation.
Treatments came along, and many of us are defying out death sentences. Still, some of us feel pretty brow-beaten. I can not say, even in front of my mother, that I will be here in 5 years. I just don't know.

The people I know, and have known who struggle with terminal illnesses have mostly been real prize-fighters. They willed to live. Every effort was made. And several lived. Those that died, died satisfied that they squeezed every good thing out of life.
Being terminally ill gives one a heightened sense of all senses. You notice leaves budding in February. You may notice where a sewer manhole cover was made. In India, no less!
A visit from a friend, who knows just how long to stay, is such a balm.

These people are pro-life, and usually not in constant heavy pain. It comes and goes.

When I was told my liver would die soon, I found myself following orders, and going to the transplant clinic. I had a small chance, really small, of getting a real transplant. But I discovered that I had two persons in one.
One was this guy who found life so painful, for all the people that hate guys like me just because we exist. They are out there marching with placards. We shall see them at the National Conventions this summer.
The other was this man who was a tough patient. I read up on everything, suggested things (some which were correct, and helpful), and railed when medication mistakes were made. I was a real pain, but very kind at the same time. Persistent.

So I really wanted to live, after all? Just a little longer...

Now, I realize that the majority of suicidal ideations are not exactly about wanting to die, really. It's some other intolerable thing in (my) life.
I spent time on a Borderline Personality Disorder ward - cutters galore. They come to know things, later in life (hopefully): they did not really, really, really, want to actually die.
They just felt like it.

When you are told you have 2 years to live, everything changes. I have threatened to stop my medical meds once, over a year ago. I fantasize about it - because I am sick of being unloved in a peaceful romantic situation.
I beat those 2 years, amazing the doctors. My body is an amazing instrument.

I still carry HIV, and my immune system is not too great, on paper, but my liver seems almost normal.

And yet, suicidal ideations persist. They are masked with a drug (Provigil). It does a good job, most of the time.

The answer had to be this: my suicidal feelings were a result of a chemical imbalance (hormones, neurotransmitters, and who know?) that can not be treated. No one knows where to begin to test. The tests performed showed no great troubles (altough liver damage affects moods).

This may allow some of you to give yourself a break. Your life itself may not be as awful as you think. But your amazing instrument, your body, may be out-of-tune.
It is popular now, and wise to look at what you eat, where you live, and how you live. Everything is chemistry - the air we are in, the water we consume, and every single food we eat is a chemcial compound.

It's a project that requires a lot of self-care. But as you care for your body and its environment more, you develop a greater sense of self-preservation. You've done all this work - why would you want to spoil it now?

This on-off terminally ill person tries to hang on for multiple reasons. And one of them is the leading post, here. There are two people I would devastate if took violence on myself.
There is a third: but I am not often willing to admit it.

Me.

peace,
Sylvester

Re: the ones who love you - yes, it is quite true.

Hello ,

I've been having a hard time figuring out how to say what I want to say so I hope that this makes sense. Maybe some piece of this will make sense to someone other than me. I hope so.

Recently, I have lost a loved one, lost a teacher to a terminal illness, and have spent a lot of time with thinking about what it must be like for my friend who is living with a terminal illness. The one thing that these people all have in common is that they have had no control over what has happened to them. This does not make coping with their loss-or impending loss any easier.

All of these people have contributed to the person that I am today, and I am so grateful that I have known them. Unlike many of you reading this, I have never attempted but I've wanted to die and think about how it could happen and how it wouldn't be so sad. Then the rational side of my self knows what it would do to the ones who love me. I don't see myself as someone people should miss, but I could never hurt the ones I love by ending my life.

There are so many people who never have the chance to do the things they wanted to do because they have died. I know that because I am alive I can do so many things. I can do things to honor those who were unable to do them.

I love someone who on many occassions has tried to take their own life. Everyday that I don't spend with person, I am so scared that they will leave me here to try to live my life without them. I don't think I would ever be able to enjoy everything I will experience if that person isn't with me. Just thinking about the horrific possibility that the worst case scenario might one day become my reality makes me physically ill. It makes me cry. It makes me cry a lot.

So many of you are fortunate enough to have people who love you and care about you and would be unimaginabley devestated that they will never have a chance to talk to you, see you, or feel you ever again. No matter how alone you feel and how much you think no one would miss you or that the world would be better off without you-YOU ARE WRONG. Anyone is welcome to argue that, but I hope deep down inside you can find that light (it might be really dim!) to realize that "Each life has its place." That means everyone. Every last person on this earth. You might not know it yet, but there are things for you to contribute to this world and if you don't the world will miss out!

I'm not sure what will happen to me after I die. But I know what I can do while I'm alive. I want more than anything to live my life with the one I love because it is sharing my life with that special person that means the world to me. Sharing my life with the one I love makes me the happiest person on this planet. I say this knowing that I am just one person. I am one person who loves one of you more than words could ever describe or explain. I am one of the people that loves those of you that come here each and everyday. Be here if this helps you make it to tomorrow. Many people have a hard time coping with knowing a loved one wants to die. As you know these people can do and say the wrong things out of fear and frustration and the wrong time. Please know that it doesn't mean they don't care or won't miss you.

To those of you with whom i've spoken- I WOULD miss you. To those of you whom I've yet to meet-I WOULD miss you too. I WOULD miss you because there were soo many things you were going to share with the world and I wouldn't have a chance to experience the ways you would continue to touch the world.

Fight to hold on for another day for yourself and the people who love you. When you wake up tomorrow try to do the same. Please know that each day you will bring joy to the ones you love because they have the opportunity to spend more time with you.

Everyone is like a pebble dropped into the middle of a pond. Every pebble creates ripples that will travel to the edge of the water and stop only because the ripples meet the land. Please know that each of your respective ponds is the size of an ocean. You have so much to share with the world. Let the ripples stop when they stop by themselves.

Please don't give up. You can do so much that you've not yet done. You make the world what it is-so make it a place you would like to stay and share it! Share it with the ones you love and those who love you and those who will love you that you've not yet met.

Each life has its place. Alive.
Maybe.... got no one offline who loves me though.

This post is like four years old but I'm answering it for this reason--remarkably I have no one. No one left. lol (Keeping reading.)

All right, here's the translation. I'm only 45 but all my sibs are distant and both parents long deceased.

I have NEVER been this alone but what keeps me going is I think akin to egoism. Not megalomania or narcissism (the neurotic extremes). Think self-love with an incomplete development of healthy assimilation into society.

That's.... about as accurate I can put it. If not for some love of self, well shit--I wouldn't still be here a year later. Frankly I find myself greatly amusing and educational for others though with unknowable untapped potential. I have a lot of the future me to grow into and a lot to learn still. [Psychiatrically, they would diagnose this as "depresssion with schizoid features" simply because I tend so strongly to isolate.]

LOL, that does sound mental I guess. But hey if my egoism is keeping me alive. I mean you would't want to lose me, would you. ( ) Personally, I've thoght it over. Carefully, you know? Aaaand I just don't know what I'd do without me.

I don't want to contribute to the world, and I don't love anyone, so I don't care whether I would be missed. If anything, I want to destroy the world and everyone in it, but that's not possible. Leaving the world, OTOH, is.

Thank you for your compassion and for your desire to reach out and share some of the very positive views you have. I am struggling right now in a way I have never before experienced and I am finding it very difficult to see the forest for the trees. I logged on here to feel less alone and the very first message I read is yours. I feel less alone. Thank you.

Such a sweet sentiment. My death would hurt one person. ONE. And that person has the "support network" that I do not. It could easily take a week for anyone to notice I was gone. Not an exaggeration. As my suicidal thoughts have increased lately, I've noted the time intervals that pass between contacts with other people, and they only extend. Recently that lapse has been as long as three weeks where no one would have known if I was alive or dead. The ones who love me? No such animal.

apt name wraith

as i'm sure you already feel like a ghost in your own life

while i originally came here to seek help for myself unfortunately i'm one of these armchair psychologist A-holes that you all know and loathe

this is a good place to start but seeking real connections and not the isolated half connections that you may make here would be helped if you started a hobby, ya know something you enjoy doing with others if you have one

i'm sure there are plenty of reasons why someone would appreciate you as a friend and more remember

1 lonely person + 1 or more lonely person (people) = 1 or more non lonely people

and you're not the only isolated lonely person in the world reach out and try and find some other people and ya never know you may find there's good people left in the world

and coming from a person like me that seems hypocritical but really it's the best i can offer advice wise

Thanks Spyke; I don't loathe 'armchair psychologists' myself; rather, I've often found them to be more insightful and compassionate than the pros. I do have a few different hobbies that still manage to interest me, and one or two even involve getting out and being around other people. However I am in such dire financial straits that I can't afford to put gas in a borrowed car for anything non-essential, and that is currently limited to job interviews when I find them. If I don't find something soon I will be on the streets; and losing my shelter will mean losing my companion animal, who currently is my only motivation to do anything at all.
I'm not new to depression or despair, and I'm not uneducated. I know how to start driving forward, I just haven't been able to actually do.
I've been through the wringer of emotional betrayal and loss recently, and while I know that it has been and could be something I can get through, this time I'm not sure it will be.
I know that there are good people still out there. I'm just not one of them.

Thank you so much for this post. Recently the suicide of someone I didnt even know has affected me in the most desolate way. Because I see the pain and the hurt and grief through his loved ones. I feel much love to his brother and seeing him go through this without being able to help him is the hardest thing Ive had to do. And I think of these poor souls in the most terrible pain who have commited or are thinking about suicide and I want to help, because nothing is worth all that pain.
I've never felt so powerless and the thought that people do commit suicide for their pain very much upsets me.
I've had my fair share of thoughts but like many, I hold on to the fact of hurting my loved ones. Having seen it first hand I know the pain and suffering it causes with no way of remediation.
People DO care, even if they've never known you. I certainly care and all i can wish is that people do just find that little strength to somehow turn things around. I'd give anything for things to turn around for my friends brother. He was so beautiful and kind from what I knew of him and Im so hurt that he went.

It's a nice thought. I'm just ... I don't know, angry, I think. Intensely, childishly, selfishly furious about damn near everything. Hard to imagine there's much of a place for that in the world.

It blows my mind that this many people on this forum could care less about this band. #12 was one of the few bands around that actually deserved to call themselves mathcore. Im surprised that every DEP fan doesnt love them as much as they do Dillinger

There is families where they are happier without one. Hated ones is better bury. I am going to smash my computer and my property now and make sure there is nothing to clean after me.

I am happy that you live and do those things which I could not to do. I wanted to thank you for that.

I am glad to be here, it's amazing. Even I too passed these situations, My best friend has dead because of his panic disorder, still I can’t forget that day. His death created sadness in my life. Now I am recovering from that mood. Sharing is the main thing to solve many problems .I hopes this post will definitely help others. Thanks for sharing.

I feel your pain. I am also in love with someone who has attempted suicide in the past and who still struggles with depression and thoughts of ending his life on a regular basis. I worry about him often and wonder what I would do if he ever were to succeed. But you're right that you can't focus on that because if you do, you will be completely miserable. You don't live only for one person and even if the worst were to happen, there are other things worth living for. Thanks for your post.

What a awesome thought, sometimes it does take losing someone who is very close to you to know what life is worth. I have seen this recently in the loss of a friend who died all of a sudden a couple of months ago. He lived his life well and made friends with many people even though his life was short he did what he wanted and touched many lives in the process.
Thank you Sarah and shadowcat. If it helps one person, I've accomplished what I hoped to.
