150kcal? thats less than a 10th of what u should have in a day, if ur on a diet u should probably be taking in about 1500kcal (for a woman) i think a slice of toast is ok in the morning :wink:

No its not Cinderella, if you want to lose weight in a healthy way. Though I do agree you need to complement with a complex carbohydrate such as banana because toast on its own gives a quick energy boost but isn't sustainable.... personally I would give the butter a miss and just squash the banana on it.... :barmy:

I don't cut out certain foods but instead eat smaller more frequent meals. My exercise burns about 650 calories in an hour. My weight lifting and horse back riding burn more. It helps a lot and with all that I burn off extra calories. I think we get into trouble when we eat in excess more than what we eat.

Edited to add watch the bleached products and anything that isn't whole grain. Non whole grain white and wheat bread isn't good for you. Whole grain is much better so make sure it says it on the bag. Don't forget you need protein for energy and lean muscle.

ofocurse my bad memory. Was there a HEAL chat yesterday? Bunny, hazel, anybody? Please come back. We miss you.

As you know I was the one who was originally doing 1 hour/seven days a week on the treadmill. I then took it down to five days a week. I am sick and tired of that treadmill. We have some dance instruction videos and I'm gonna make my workouts fun. That's my goal for this week. To start learning to dance.

just thought id let you know that on a thread i made today there is a way to work out you minimum Kcal intake so i thought id post it here:

MR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is a name for the energy required for an individual their body working at rest ie. how much energy you would need for your system to work if you slept all day.

Males = 66 + (13.7 x W) + (5 x H) - (6.8 x A) = BMR

Females = 665 + (9.6 x W) + (1.7 x H) - (4.7 x A) = BMR

W = Weight (KG)
H = Height (CM)
A = Age in years
kcals = kilo calories

Hope this helps you to work out you kcal intake, if you need help working it out just let me know and ill do it for you :)

since i started my new job i've got in to a really good, healthy (or healthier) routine..

.. even though i start the day with chocolate spread on toast, my lunch and dinner is healthy.. and i dont feel the need to snack in between.

I guess it's because i'm really busy all day though.. and i'm going to have to try really hard to keep this up once my job ends in 1 weeks time!

I know someone who is a dietician, and she said you should have a minimum of 30% fat in your diet each day, lower than that and it is unhealthy. Over 50% and that is too much.

She also said drinking plenty of full fat milk, although it's nutrients cannot be correctly be absorbed by the body (I'm not a Chemistry person, but she said something about chain molecules) it does actually speed up a person's metabolic rate and greatly help in the digestion of other foods.

I personally think that what and how much you eat depends on your lifestyle. Losing body fat (not weight, because that is not really relavent) is ideally done through exercise, as opposed to dieting. The only things you really have to worry about is eating sugary foods, and/or too much alcohol. Apart from that you're fine. The only downside of eating toast is is gives you wind! :biggrin:

hazel this is fab-just found this- for last 2 weeks i have got family on a healthy life style.
our mornings were fighting for shower and the boys grabbing a packet of crisps to eat on way to bus stop.we all get up an hour earlier (which was so hard to start with) and i hve a smoothie every morning (a frozen 1 from tesco) and boys have time to sit and eat toast etc. we are all more relaxed and i have lost 6 lbs from just not grabbing snacks thro out day.i used to have a slump of energy about 11 ish in morning but dont at all now.(i do still have the 2 biscuits from staff room at break time ).i could not believe i lost weight as that was not even my aim.this might help some too-each wednesday 1 of us picks a activity like football in park (yawn) swimming cycling etc....and we al go to gym wednesday but im lucky with that as i get gym memembership thro work.hey its my choice of activity this week and i will be choosing yoga from a video i have rented from library lol
this will so help me thank you-a great idea

Yea, good idea for a thread. I have been trying to work out how to eat better. I have been loosing weight since I left home because I don't really know how to cook, it is too much effort, and I don't want to spend the money. I need to keep weight on now though. And I want to eat healthy because the junk food is part of the depression. And I don't like eating much meat. But I have been told I have low iron levels.
at the moment I have managed to get to:
breakfast: cereal
mt: piece of fruit
Lunch: sandwhich and chocolate muslie bar
dinner: pasta/rice
