Honestly once the first few weeks are over and you start to breath easier and your throat isn't sore and your resting heart rate calms down and you start exercising and not eating junk for after the first bit you realize smoking makes you feel like shit. I still have cravings but it feels good not to need anything. When you smoke you feel like you need it like water but in time you'll realize there is nothing to miss. The hard part is not giving in to that "one" cigarette. Because it ain't gonna be just one..

So Day 6...yes my rant...sorry everyone...not a good day...really struggling to not go buy any cigarettes but am determined to keep on...so instead drinking a glass of water...trying not to look like depriving myself but rather what I am gaining...will admit worried about once have to commute to classes and start of classes...as well as stress situations...so trying to avoid all till have to deal with those and just have to take deep breaths and get passed it I know.

Keep with it @Kiwi2016, you're doing so well.

I have now officially passed the 1 week mark by 45 minutes. Can I just have one now as a treat for doing so well? ;)

The hardest time for me is when I get in my car - I always had a ciggie when I was driving. Now I have a nicotine lozenge instead - yummy!

Those times when you are habitually smoking are so hard.
I'm on month 3 now I guess and I swear to God there are a few recent times I've audibly talked myself out of buying them. So - it gets easier! But I'm not sure when it becomes a picnic.

Gonna quit tonight before bed! I started when I was 15. When I got pregnant I stopped for 15 years. Met friend who chained smoked and when my life got turned upside down I started back again. It’s been 3 years or 4, can’t remember. I really hate it and the hooks it had in me and for the fact that I want to be healthier and not have bad teeth...so here is attempt #3, wish me luck! I mean who wants to end up with teeth like these?
If we don’t stop we will have teeth like these! I mean icky poo!

@Sunspots You can't tell kiwi hang on your doing so well and then say can I have one for finishing a week. Calm down. You've been fighting this a long time. You're strong enough to do this ok? Why keep doing a few weeks over and over? You're tough so keep it up.

The stupid thing with me is I never find it as hard as I think I should so then I convince myself I can just have one... *facepalm
Must not do that this time..

Hey, do you think smoking makes hot flashes worse? I've just noticed I've hardly had any this week and I normally have loads of them...

@Sunspots thanks for support and @ Sunspots and @ Walker...reading your conversation has helped me as am still dealing with figuring out the mornings....as am so used to getting up early and sitting on patio with coffee and cigs before OH wakes up etc etc. Know what you mean about the car as have my class on Tuesday so have the 1 hour drive there...dreading that...know that according to Carr should just think of what have gained and not given up...but admit that mindset is not easy...thinking may bring along my bag of celery or carrots to get me there and back.....

Going to Abs Fitness class this am so that should be a "wake-up" call as to what am trying to gain...eg my breath when exercising...sigh....

Wishing all here all the best for the day :)

You're doing great! Congrats on 6 days. Just try to get to a month or 2 even and see how you feel. If you want at that point you can go back to smoking and you would realize then how bad they make your body feel. If you go back at this point you may not notice it because your body hasnt healed enough. This way you can at least see what life is like without it and if you do decide to smoke again you will at least probably have some different thoughts about it being good.

My update is I'm at week 6 or 7 maybe. I've been quit this long before a few times and I actually slipped one day and borrowed a cigarette a few weeks in. I still am not certain I am done forever but i really am enjoying my lungs have been coming back lately. Been able to run decent distances. My heart isnt beating so fast when I go to bed. My skin looks better. Circulation is better *cough cough*. My throat still feels kinda weird but it has years of damage to recover from. I hope this is my last quit because I really dont want to die on an oxygen tank someday.

Hi everyone, I am trying to quit too, I have been gradually reducing smoking since christmas and today is my 3rd day of no smoking at all.
Well done, keep it up :)

I'm just starting day 14. It's going to be challenging today as I'm going to see my friend who's a smoker. I haven't been around any smokers since I quit.

But someone walked past me in a shop yesterday and they absolutely reeked of tags. Turned my stomach.

Well now on Day 12...made long car rides to classes (1 hour each way) granted ate tons of baby carrots and some relatively low carb chips (will have to cut those out I know)...congrats to all who are getting there...progressing as quitters etc etc...know that we can do this :)
