Thanks - off on the walk and took it easy. And did over 10,000 steps, totalling 15000 for the day, and the hip behaved like a normal hip despite the uneven terrain and clambering over fallen trees. It was silent. Then I got a twinge walking through the living room when I got in 🤣
Yeah the hip is functionally fine, but I've been told I have a sensitised nerve in that area, which could explain it all. Yeah they just said Mild OA from an x ray but all that shows is a bit of a gap where there's some minor cartilage wear - I'd expect this at my age, I don't think it would explain what is a functional and very intermittently painful hip 🫠 The thing is I've got a specialist who is seeing the whole picture and a general doctor who wants a simple explanation they can code into their system 🤷
I am proud of myself if I get 15K steps in half a
week. I need to get out there more. And I have picked up that the heat in Western Europe is as bad as it is here in the SW USA*, which makes it very hard. Worst part is my skin. This is just my own experience, but stretching is about the best thing I can do for my chronic pain, even though my injury was cartilage + bursitis in the beginning. TENS unit is nice but the adhesive gets irritating if I use it frequently.
Thank baby Jeebus that you have the specialist. Geeze these transactional doctors - I get it; they are the same over here. Part of why the healthcare system is broken overall. Doctors overloaded means they are just trying to churn through appts as quickly as possible so that they can also haggle with insurance companies and write up the notes that are required. I understand the insurance piece is less complicated in single payer systems, but it still sounds like there's more need for doctors than doctors to fill the need.
* - the definition of the SW region of the USA is disputed. Geographically, I am basically in the dead center between east and west over the N. American continent, but climate-wise, we are much more similar to the SW than midwest. I've heard people in AZ say that CO is actually in the midwest, but I don't think they've spent a lot of time in, e.g., Ohio and then gone to Colorado. Culturally we are pathologically connected to the "cowboy" mythos, so I think that's where the SW comparison begins to look apt.
