Humans Don't Know How To Love

Oh, humans know how to love, especially in a romantic sense, the problem lies with the fact that most of us do not know how to communicate that love to those we care for most.

How do you know humans cannot unconditionally love another human (non-family) the only way you could know this is if you asked every human that exists and ever existed who claimed to have loved someone if there love was unconditional, if just one person says yes then that proves that you are wrong and you know what, out of all the humans that ever existed which is ALOT i bet you at least one has felt this way towards another human. You can deny it as much as you like but there different levels of love unconditional love being the strongest and you loving chocolate being the weakest. Also to say that you never loved someone at all if you leave them is ridiculous love is a chemical reaction/inbalance in your brain which at any point can stop meaning you no longer love that person anymore, so during in that chemical reaction you DID love someone but now you don't.

Humans can love themselves unconditionally, but not their significant others. They're disturbing creatures. Like aristotle said, every action we make is always to make ourselves happy. Even if we make someone else happy, we're happy that they're happy, so really we're still making ourselves happy.

The concept of unconditional love exists. Parents are capable of it towards their children, some children are capable of it towards their parents. But humans are not capable of it in romantic relationships. No matter how you try to twist it around, that's just fact.
wow... what sweeping statements you are prone to

you keep ascerting that you know the truth and that there is no way you can be wrong which negates the need for you to contribute to the debate really if you aren't willing to listen to any other point of view.....

but my 2 cents.... yes. i unconditionally love my child. i would die for her if i had to. as i would for my husband. the love feels the same for both of them. they are the most important things in my life and i would be unhappy if it meant both of them being happy. i don't believe that you have ever TRULY loved someone. perhaps someone as young as you is unlikely to have done so yet in life. maybe experience in life will broaden your thought processes and allow you to accept that you can't know it all when your young - experience teaches a great deal. sometimes thats a good thing, othertimes unfortunately it is not

I was raped by an older friend in my teens, I have love for him still. Brotherly kindness.

If you have some sort of problem with my beliefs, feel free not to read them. You do not unconditionally love your husband. Just because you would die for him doesn't mean you would do anything for him. There's a difference. And when/if you are able to understand that difference, we'll continue this topic. Or rather, I'll continue this topic with you. If you are not, however, able to understand that simple fact, then I will not even bother to respond anymore. And your typical stab at my age is meaningless and empty. There is no such thing as "true" romantic love, so I won't argue that I, as well as others, are not capable of it. "Others" include you by the way, and the rest of humanity -just so you're not confused. What I will say however is this: I bet I would do a lot more for my fiancee than most people would do for their spouse, bf, gf, whatever. <Mod Edit, WildCherry: Rude>

 it would appear that i am not the one with a problem with posts!

you have no idea whatsoever about my relationship with my husband, and you know neither of us even slightly. learn a little respect young lady.

please do not bother to respond if you are unable to respect other people or hold a civil conversation. i didn't even try to belittle you and regardless of your last reply have no intention of doing so. now perhaps instead of attacking me we should return to the point of the question which i was doing in my previous post :)

:( I dont know much about life, but i know enough to know that, I don't know the ends of anything. I personally believe after ripping everything I believed to shreads, that feelings and life are not defined by the words we write or the limitations we personally feel. We`re all different, whats for some is not for others. When it comes to telling someone how things are, you're really only saying it from your own perspective and experience. Trying to predict the future with information and conclusiosn just limits it.

Idk,, feelings are more than any words. When it comes to love, love is simply for me undefinable. So trying to really say how it is, or how it isnt is next to impossible. I prefer to just live it and share the best parts as i go with it, and nuture it and fight for it when things in life try to take it away.

i hate to see you two arguing about something that's so personal and important to eachother. Can't you agree to your own views instead of .. :( Id just step back from telling eachother how things are in your own lives. Talk about love in general or specifically for yourself, but poking and trying to rip apart eachothers personal lives and feelings is.. common that's just putting someone in your own box and not letting them just be who they want to be.

I think you are misunderstanding the term " unconditional" here TooShy.
It means loving them whatever, not loving them for what you will do for them.
Perhaps thats the difference.
Lets say my girlfriend used heroin and i didn't like the fact they did, i might still love her with all my heart...............and let her do it..................because i loved her unconditionally.

But thats just a thought.

I tend to love a lot.. though it doesn't come out. Despite all my flaws, despite my anger and despite my often fierce exterior I tend to care about my fellow human beings so much. Despite my intense almost genocidal hatred against people who rape, molest and act as willing sadists.. I have an even greater love for kind and generous people. Even if they're a complete stranger I'd be willing to step in front of a bullet for them if I felt they were truely good inside.

I think it's why I'm so angry all the time. I see the what people go through.. see what horrors they have to stomach and it just turns a part of me black. It just crushes me to read all these stories and not be able to do anything about it.

Well, "thankfully" I am able to think logically about something without bias.
The single funniest quote of the year so far. :lol!:

I think himans are able to love unconditionally. Just because you havent experienced something doesnt mean it doesnt exist. When ive broken up with someone it doesnt mean ive stopped loving them, i just love them in a different way. Their are many many many types of love. For all those people who thinks love is the same, you dont love your kids the same way you love your partner. If you do then you need to be put in jail for a very long time

I'm curious...why must the conditions be tested? Why the need for "proving" it? If the love exists and we are secure in our partner AND ourselves, the love itself is all we ought to need. There are enough trials and tribulations that come along in life, why DO things add to them?

If I love someone that person feels he/she must "test" my love, how can I believe that he/she respects and trusts me or themself?

Hmmmm...Methinks such tests of love could become very tiresome to deal with in a relationship. They would always be undermining the assumption that I was being honest in my declaration of love.

Agreed Acy................. could a need to test the condition of love possibly indicate insecurity or perhaps a fear it is not reciprocated in the same way?

Hope you are well by the way.

i think i have addressed most the comments in my past post. about what love is and people's needs to compartmentalize relationships that's why people say romantic love, platonic love, etc.

there is only one kind of love. romantic, parental... those are are system to compartmentalize relationships.

again, you can be romantic without love and love without romance.

the discussion is not about needing to test love. that's an entirely new discussion.

the question is can humans love? the premise of love in this context is unconditional and eternal. and when i say unconditional, i mean unconditional in every sense of the word.

and i will say again, if there is anyone who can love, it's parent to a child.

the closest is a parent to a child... but "romantic love" does not exist.

Everyone has an innate need to feel important. That’s a universal truth. That is up there in the ranks of ‘we all need to eat’ and ‘we all need to sleep’. That is non-debatable and anyone who will say otherwise is absolutely stup!d.

That is why people “fall in love” with others. When someone makes them feel important and needed, they instinctively get attracted because their need is being met. They get the attention that they want, the knowing that there is someone else that gives a f$%k that they are alive, that in the billions and billions of people in this world, there is someone that would like to spend time with them over everyone else.

No one falls in love with someone that makes them feel like a worthless piece of sh!t, right? “Love” always begins with a smile that melts hearts or a hello what was just a little softer than other hellos or glance that lasted a second too long. It is always when someone makes you feel special.

Then you stay. You stay because you need a witness to your life as it is beautifully articulated in Shall We Dance. You need someone there to make you feel things you do don’t go unnoticed.

I don’t know if it is romantic but I do know it’s still about the self and not the other person.

It is vanity… not love.

Ok lets have a look at one of your quotes.

"That is non debatable and anyone who will say otherwise is absolutely stupid"

A tad presumtious maybe?
A tad rude too.

I take umbridge to your sweeping statement, for me, i love to make the other person feel loved and possibly important, it works both ways you see.
I merely expanded a thread, which naturally progressed.
You have not lived my 42 years, yet you choose to tell me how i love and am loved.
We can all learn from eachother without rudeness, please try to remember that.

Well.. i love someone. But there is no way I can be with her. Im emotionally fucked, financially fucked, and educationally im fucked.
Love exists, I have no doubt about it. .. the worst is when you can't have it.
Though, there is something worse. Hurting or seeing someone you love in pain.

Right now im losing two parts of my life. What can I do. They each are off living their own lives which is really the main of what I want.

It hurts though thinking about someone you love with somoene else making them happy. But her happynes means so much more than my own desires or feelings, so no matter what I feel, Im always going to be happy that she's happy.

What else can you do?
