I contacted my clinic that deals with insomnia, and all sorts of issues mainly for men. I have been prescribed 15mg of suvorexant. Taken only as needed . Not every night. Been told it's not addictive. Has anyone tried this ? How did you find it? I should receive it next week. I did some research myself and it seems to work differently than other drugs ive taken. Instead of inducing sleep , it cuts off wakefulness chemicals in the brain. It wasnt cheap though. 60 tablets cost me $180aud ($130usd) .
Let us know later how it works.

That one is called Belsomra in the US. I tried it about 10 years ago. No nasty side effects as I can recall. It does work differently from many sleeping aids. The doctor who prescribed it to me said that it is a hit or miss, some people do great on it, others not so much. When I took Belsomra, it was a $1k prescription for 30 days here.

I wish you well and great sleep!

Yep, it's called Belsomra here too. Wow! 1k! And I thought $180 was expensive ! Apparently there's a newer version of it too, cheaper and more effective if Belsomra doesn't work.

Broken sleep, then fell into a bunch of bad dreams, woke at 5 with tired eyes, gave up trying to sleep.
it almost seems like a losing battle to be honest. These new expensive pills haven't done shit to help me , i even took them with melatonin. Barely 4 to 5 hours sleep broken , with crap dreams . Less than refreshed when waking up

@Jezah81 They 'should' give your money back. I keep hearing how the medications don't work. A friend I used to have in Australia felt the ones her doctor put her on actually made her worse and contributed to her mental illness. She ended up committing herself (which cost her dearly) to a facility somewhere up in Brisbane for a month. But that didn't help either. I guess I'm going to keep trying to workout even more and keep running.

Ive tried working out in the sun, more exercise as much as my joints will allow. Unfortunately nothing helps my sleep. I keep asking myself if this is how its always going to be until death! Not sure if i can put up with weeks of this let alone a few more decades of this hell

I'd love to say this week was a record for insomnia with about 20 minutes sleep for the whole week. Snatched fragments here and there. Unfortunately it's not the first week like this I've had. Been awful, on top of being unwell. Several nights I've either been yanked from the edge of impending sleep by my bladder or restless leg syndrome, which is like if anyone could have devised a torture method that worked, it would be that.

I got a bit of sleep clearly as I had 2 weird dreams (one about buying a flat off a colleague and regretting as the double glazing was plastic and I was inspecting it from the outside like spiderman) and also trying to contact a customer on my phone after they whatsapped me, but no matter what I did whatsapp had vanished off my phone). So at least I got some REM sleep at some point, did wake very early and just stayed in bed after that and drifted on and off.

@CrossedSeas Ultimately yes, I was listening to an audiobook and I fell asleep again on the couch. After falling back I also have bizarre dreams. This time it was feeling disoriented looking for my boxes of art supplies in the garage here, then realizing it'd turned into the garage at my former house, and then I was just lost in a multistory car park under the CBD. I woke up confusedly thinking that the sound of ravens was cockatoos.

Oh man, glad you got a little more sleep, but so many confusing and disorienting dreams for everyone last night!
