So I'm re-reading Manson's entire book (the author, not the Antichrist Superstar). As I read each page, I realize that these are such helpful principles to live by. The first chapter, called, "Don't Try" tells us not to try to be something we're not, and instead accept who we already are.
To quote Manson, "The desire for more positive experiences is in itself a negative experience; the acceptance of one's negative experiences is in itself a positive experience." Philosopher Alan Watts called this the backwards law, and it works.
"Suffering through your fears and anxieties allows you to build courage and perseverance." So in other words, stop wishing to not be afraid. Instead, be afraid, suffer through it, and accept it.
Don't try to convince yourself that you're beautiful in front of a mirror. Truly happy people already believe that they're beautiful and don't need to repeat affirmations to themselves in order to make themselves believe it. Don't try. Just be. *cough cough*

The more you pursue feeling better, the worse you're going to feel. So accept that you feel like shit and ironically enough, you'll actually start to feel better.
