My sciatica has flared up and I'm rocking a solid 8 :(

I know it's bad when I need to get my hands on some heavy painkillers, stat. My doctor is on holiday for 2 weeks and no other doctors will prescribe anything because they treat everyone like *junkies* so I don't even bother anymore.

I had to call my ex-mother in law who always has something heavy available. It hasn't helped much though. :( Hopefully I can get some sleep soon as I need to be at the dentist in 8 hours and I barely slept last night.

i'm sorry that you are in so much pain. i hope you can find a way to lower it. and unfortunately you're right, unless you've been with a doctor for a long time they assume everyone is a drug seeker. hopefully it will eventually be solved so that legitimate pain patients can get the meds they need. try to rest if you can.

Six. I never talk about my pain issues really. Just wanted to do that when I saw this space, at least one time. Pain is bitch and I feel for everyone posting.
i'm sorry that your pain is so high, it's hard to deal with chronic pain. i hope you can find a way to lower it a little.

4 which is great for me. a couple of days ago i even reached a 3 for a few hours, first time in years. i'm usually a 4 or 5 lately which is better than the 5 or 6 i used to average. so pain is controlled to a point except my nightly spikes.

What is your pain from?
mostly chronic leg pain. they can't find out why and they gave up more than 10 years ago, so they do what they can to help me live with it. i literally couldn't live without pain meds. i did research it years ago and there are a lot of cases like mine.

My lowest level is a 6 and my highest is probably a 9, just because I don't bother going to the ER for pain alone if it's a pain I'm already familiar with.

But yeah, I haven't been below a 6 for at least 2 years. It's not a mystery, I have a diagnosis, there's just no effective treatment.

That sounds really tough. I’m sorry to hear you are going through that and I can understand why it may be so hard to keep trying to stay positive. Keep leaning on us at SF for support during your bad days. We’re here for you. *hugXx

I've done a ton of therapy with a chronic pain specialist, so I'm pretty good at coping with the pain most of the time. I rarely even use painkillers because the side effects aren't worth it.

However, there's a certain threshold level where I stop being able to be myself. That's around an 8 or 9. All of my therapeutic techniques start failing at that point because I just can't do anything. I have a few pain killers that can take the edge off, but they make me utterly stupid.

Anything below 8 and I can still focus enough to read or listen to a great book or do an online course, so even if I'm disabled, I can still engage in the richness of life.

Over 8 though, I lose the ability to focus. I lose myself, and I stop being able to enjoy life.

@Callumin An SF member who has cancer and is very much a naturalist mention a plant called 'wild lettuce'. It is supposed to be one of natures best pain relievers. She is growing it in her garden as she does not want to use opioids. I've only begun to research it myself, but it is available, both as seeds and as a prepared product online. You might want to check on it. And your medical background would probably give you insights on it that most of us could never have. At any rate, I hope you find relief for your pain that does not leave you unable to focus.
And if you check into this one, would you be willing to share what you think of it.

Thanks, I'll look into it. A quick review of the current research and information on various herbalist's websites is quite confusing and contradictory, so I'll have to look into it more to see if it's right for me. I tend to get a lot of side effects from pain killers, and wild lettuce seems to come with a lot of nasty side effects according to a number of reports.

i'm sorry that your pain is so high. i do understand because i also live in a high pain from 5 normally to spikes hitting 10 with meds. is there anything you can do to help with the pain? sometimes going to the er they think a person is a drug seeker so it's better to get meds from your doctor. feel free to use my inbox anytime you want to talk or vent.

a 6 so only a little high for me. at least i beat my battle with depression caused by pain. even with depression meds it took me 18 years to get better, i know i'm a slow learner lol. i will always try to lower my pain to a point that i can still live my life at least a little.
