That is a truth on costs of everything. With the lockdowns in the past I got lazier than usual and just not wanting to get out and now with how high things are for $50 I can buy everything needed to make dozens of burgers at home. Dining out used to be a treat, now it is at times an wildly expensive treat.

I signed up on a dating app and have been chatting to a guy for about six weeks. He seemed wonderful and I must admit I had major butterflies every time I thought about him. But there were red flags that I always managed to explain away to myself. We have been calling eachother on Skype so I felt comfortable that he was who he said he was. Even though he lives fairly close (supposedly) we hadn't met irl due to his work commitments. Yesterday he told me that he'd been recruited by the UN to work on a data terrorism project in Yemen. Alarm bells were clanging so loud that I couldn't ignore them. Today he asked to borrow money....
I'm devastated, I really had the feels with him. But I guess I'm just naive and gullible :(

My landlords new gf and lifestyles are going to drive me to the bend. I can't sleep at night, he's up at all hours. She's almost always here but has her own place. Why can't he go to her house when it's so late at night instead of blaring the tv and then other things with thin walls up here... I'm going to quit the free cleaning for him. She manages to leave a mess every single day.

Wow - you are so savvy for realizing he is a scammer. Good for you!!! So many people get taken in. You are the opposite of gullible. Those guys are pros.

i thought i'd be nice and order out for my wife today. it took me over an hour to figure out what we wanted without breaking the bank. i was watching the progress and it said it was ready and mentioned the driver. then all of a sudden i get a text and call from doordash cancelling the order due to an issue the driver had. so i gave up on door dash and tried grubhub. we got 2 cheeseburgers and 1 large fry from 5 guys, that cost me almost $50 bucks. ouch. let's hope this order goes through

My husband and I used to love eating out when we lived downtown - trying different restaurants from different cultures (since we couldn't afford to travel and I hate flying) was our entertainment. We loved Malaysian food and Thai food and Greek and Indian. That was 18 years ago and a dinner for each of us, plus a drink, plus tip, was about $50 Cdn. We would walk home thus saving on gas and parking.

These days it would be double that. Sadly, salaries have not doubled in that same time.

But sometimes you need to treat yourself and if that is your entertainment, I say go for it. There can be ways around it - for example we found a few local restaurants that have the option of a "large" portion that will feed us both. With delivery fee and tipping the driver it's $50. We supply our own drinks though.

Everyone is getting on my case about everything lately. My sister telling me I should go on Tinder and meet someone, I need to get a job, I didn't do the right things with the baby, etc. And other people keep telling me other things I should do and it's overwhelming me and making me depressed and feeling incompetent.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. My sister maybe a little bit less than ten years ago suggested POF. I had never heard of it. I met a lot of people but only kept 2 as friends. I've lost one... anyway, I meant to say I understand how other people telling you what to do is stressful.... I understand how it's overwhelming and depressing. You can only do so much, and you know yourself better than anyone. Try to remember that you do the best you can, and it's hard, but let their judgements go as much as possible. I do get the feeling incompetent too, my sister and brother did well in life, I'm still struggling. It's ironic? She worked for the government, was well paid, and I need the government on disability.

We are all different. It's not that you are incompetent, it's other's opinions and that is all they are, opinions or judgements. Instead of telling my sister about my problems, I just say I'm ok. It seems to stop the judgement, not just of me but of my sons etc. The less I say the better i cope.... and sorry if this is no help.

I'm sick of people who are so polarized that they will attack someone on a personal level for the slightest sign of holding a differing political view from them, even if politics is irrelevant to the situation. For instance I read a news story where they had a doctor talking about a number of pregnant patients who had been diagnosed with syphilis, a disease that could result in a child being born with brain damage.

The doctor referred to "a pregnant person." A number of readers then jumped all over him for not saying "woman" - suggesting he is stupid or didn't have a a real medical degree because he used a neutral term.

I've never worked in medicine but I worked in an industry where we had to very careful not to give even general identifying information to third parties. If someone gave us a licence plate number, we would then ask what model of vehicle or what the driver looked like, even though the type of vehicle attached to that plate, and who it was registered to, would pop up on our computer screen. We were not allowed to say "oh that vehicle is a red Toyota Corolla registered to Mr. Roy Jones." Or even ask "was the driver a middle-aged man?"

When you are not allowed to divulge personal information, it becomes automatic not to disclose someone's race, gender, occupation and so on, because sometimes those things can be used to identify someone. I would assume this is doubly important in the case of something like a sexually transmitted disease!!! So you use neutral terms. I doubt the doctor was consciously omitting the patients' gender - neutral language is a habit. I doubt he was being "woke" but even if he was, it's just nasty to attack his professional competence over it. And yeah - they are Internet trolls but I think people become emboldened to attack or shun someone IRL if others back them up.
