We're quitters!

I keep going in cycles. It’s so hard to quit. I stop for like six months than I’m like yeah I’m done. Then next thing I know I’m at it again.

it’s as easy for me to start as to stop. I know that sounds confusing... fml

I totally get that. I can stop really easily but I get to around the three week mark and "just have one..." And then, bang, I'm smoking again.

But I'm on day 33 today and having recognised that I'm forever thinking I can keep it to "just that one" I'm hoping I can avoid that this time.

First, congrats on a month+, @Sunspots!

Second, don't give in to what I call "junkie thinking"...That evil little voice is the cause of most relapses..."Just one won't hurt...."

Except that one will lead to two....then five....then ten...and pretty soon, you're back on the nicotine train..

Remember, cigs travel in packs..there is no such thing as "I'll only have one"..

A dear friend of mine who is also an alcoholic (sober 25 years) introduced me to two aphorisms used often among recovering alcoholics, and I believe they apply just as aptly to nicotine addiction:

One's too many and a million's not enough..

And:

It's not the caboose that kills you..

Best of luck to your (and everyone's) quit! I know how hard it is, but the benefits far outweigh the brief pain of withdrawal..

It took me three tries, but as they say, third time's a charm... haven't smoked in nearly 20 years...

When is the last time you made it this long, Lu?
Eight years ago I managed to quit for five years. Started again three years ago and since then haven't made it past three or four weeks.

HOLY FREAKING HELL your cigarettes are expensive.
Yep, £10 for a pack of 20 (and that's for the cheaper brands). If you want a major brand like Marlborough or Silk Cut they're around £14 for a pack 😱

In other news HOLY FREAKING HELL your cigarettes are expensive. I almost had a frigging heart attack when I saw the amount you've saved in 6 weeks.

Yeah man, them Virginian Deathsticks are shit hell expensive over here. With the money saved when I quit I was tempted to celebrate with a few luxury Cuban stokies ;)

By the way technically speaking, @Sunspots as per NHS guidelines, 6 weeks is considered as a successful quit attempt. Well done mate :)

Gosh, that is a frigging boatload of cash for smokes! We're paying a huge difference here in the States and by brand but anywhere from $4 for cheap ones all the way to $15 in an expensive state for good brand name ones but that's much more rare. Here in my state we're paying about $4.50 for ghetto ones and $6 or $7 for brand name. (£5ish)
I just added how much I've saved since I quit and it was some $2000+

Yes, it's all tax in the uk. I smoked roll-ups for 20 years before I quit, Even that was costing me £20+/week.

I'm so want to smoke. I'm stressed about so many things right now. I can't even. Can I just have one pack? Just to get through this?
