But I'm on day 33 today and having recognised that I'm forever thinking I can keep it to "just that one" I'm hoping I can avoid that this time.
First, congrats on a month+,
@Sunspots!
Second, don't give in to what I call "junkie thinking"...That evil little voice is the cause of most relapses..."Just one won't hurt...."
Except that one will lead to two....then five....then ten...and pretty soon, you're back on the nicotine train..
Remember, cigs travel in packs..there is no such thing as "I'll only have one"..
A dear friend of mine who is also an alcoholic (sober 25 years) introduced me to two aphorisms used often among recovering alcoholics, and I believe they apply just as aptly to nicotine addiction:
One's too many and a million's not enough..
And:
It's not the caboose that kills you..
Best of luck to your (and everyone's) quit! I know how hard it is, but the benefits far outweigh the brief pain of withdrawal..
It took me three tries, but as they say, third time's a charm... haven't smoked in nearly 20 years...
