So started the mirtazapine. So slept 7 hours last 2 nights...just pass out but could be from sheer exhaustion from all going through with death of my husband now a month ago....but whatever the case I will take it. So far no side effects but know those can take time to show.
I have found that I keep waking up from my dreams . Total sleep time has increased , but its always broken sleep, few hours here and there and keep waking up every few hours. I will talk to my Dr maybe about the dose.

Took my mirtazapine at 10pm last night. Anxiety was super high, went to bed after work at 11pm. Was up until about 6am until my body crashed. I took melatonin as well as magnesium glycinate. I had two cups.of coffee at work to keep me alert and awake. Should I blame the coffee for this times bad insomnia ? If I go up from 7.5mg to 15mg mirtazapine will it help ?

Sorry you were up all night @Jezah81. Coffee tends to make people more awake and alert twice, when it's taken and agian about 5 or 6 hours later. Try to change one thing at a time so it's clearer what causes what?
Yeah i dont usually have coffee especially late but I was so lethargic and sleepy at work I felt like.i had to have it. I have to work 2 nights next week back to back, I really hope I have sorted out my sleeping pattern by then

So thought was helping..but wide awake at 5...and now sleepy when have to get up. Why is it that when near time have to get up then get sleepy...simply not fair.
Same here . Thought this medication was working. My body is so so exhausted but still but can't sleep. Got flushes heart beat up. Tossing and turning in bed. No idea when this hell will be over

I was wide awake at 3:30 a.m., and hungry so I had a sandwich and read for a while. Fell back into a tormented sort of bad dream. I got up groggy and forced myself out the door for a run, in the hopes to kill those nasty dreams. It turned out to be a nice run.

I hope those of you on medication find a dosage that gives you a healthy balance of sleep and wakefulness.

Hmmm thats interesting as the dr himself told me to take only half of the 15mg. Did you feel hung over all the time or only after the first few times when you started taking it?
Youll get used to it, the hung over effect is how it changes your sleep, where I think it gives you a longer REM sleep, hence you'll have strange dreams. I think the hung over feeling gets more bearable the longer you take it.

I think I know why I've been waking up at 3 a.m. It's the neighbor's window which is directly across from the one by my bed. They turn on bright lights at that time every day. I guess they have to get up for work or something. It makes it just light enough in my room for my brain to think it's morning! I'm going to solve this by putting a large black drawing boards in the window before closing the shade.

Another hellish night for me. 15mg of mirtazapine helped me sleep from 12 am to 3am. Woke up from dreams and unable to sleep from then on. I can't keep going on like this. I feel delirious. Headache. Surely death is better than this. I'm going to br unable to work even my part time job which I need desperately. What am I supposed to do?

That's terrible, very sorry this is happening @Jezah81. Do you think your doctor would help? I have a friend (in Oz) who went through he** like that you describe. She had to end up insisting to be referred to a different MD, who listened to her long history with insomnia. He changed her other meds, put her on some dieetary restrictions and a new sleeping pill that worked.

@seabird hoping that blacking out light will help. I too often wake up at 3...never have figured out why. @Jezah81 agree about trying to get new dr...easier said than done i know. I do feel like im in bot of a fog but at this point not sure what is caused by sleep or overwhelmingness of navigating the grief/harsh new reality of what is now my new normal...

Sending heartfelt hugs that you are able to get bit more sleep...

I'm at the medical centre whilst typing this. Waiting to see a new doctor and see what he may recommend. Its hard not to lose hope and give up. I was up until about 5am this morning until my body gave up and I slept only until about 9am . Hardly enough. My eyes, my whole body feels weird. This has been my hell for about 7 years with some respite but it seems its been more on than off. I think if they were to take a brain scan of me they'd find brain damage of some sort. No human can be this much sleep deprived and not have any damage done

Hoping this will happen to me. I want to be healthy and normal. I'm getting married next year, I have a part time job that I need to keep too.

Just seen the new doctor. He told me there's no magic pill he can give me. Told me to maybe try 30mg of mirtazapine and give it a few weeks to see if it helps. Gave me some hints like waking up at the same time every morning to make me used to sleeping at the same time . All in all, it seems like there's nothing anyone can do or say to help me overcome this battle. I will try to reset my circadian clock by getting out of bed at the same time every morning and going for a walk and into the sunlight. Maybe it'll train my system after a while

Sending positive thoughts that resetting circadian rhythum and increased dosage helps.
So far no good. Doesn't seem to make any difference at all. Tried reading a book, stretching breathing exercises, nothing. I was told its anxiety and nothing really can be given for it. How long will have to put up with this for....I have to work 3 nights in a row from today and I'm scared of falling asleep at the wheel when I drive to and from work!
