I went to the pharmacy and bought some 50mg diphenhydramine tablets, appropriately called "Sleep Eaze". I used to use these a lot, but to the point I became dependent on them and was taking 2 every night at one point. Not had any for years so should at least make me drowsy. I will add to my nightly diazepam dose, and also plan to dose 20mg amitriptyline which also sometimes helps. Probably a bit risky but so is having 5 hours sleep out of a week.
This is a really good step. Maybe at a weekend you can experiment with just trusting the sleep eaze. I hope for you to be free of benzos

Thank you so much. Yes, that's where I feel at, at the moment, scared I will never sleep again and on the edge of losing my mind! Fingers crossed 🤞
Totally been there. So many times. In and out at the moment. No sleep is torture.
I would also advocate for magnesium. I will restart taking soon as well. It really helps but you need to get the right type and concentration

Great theme. Well, I am now retired and sleep might come at any time. Sometimes I sleep two hours a night - but then (after walking for a long time) I fall asleep in the afternoon in front of the TV and sleep really deep for some hours. So, as being along (for the moment - waiting still for my wife to arrive...) its a good solution. Once she is here - we have to find another solution.. What bothers me is when I wake up crying because I had a nightmare.... No medication, other than natural (Valerian). I am still on substitution - and will be all my life. I do not even feel it any longer. These times are over.

Funny, many years ago I met a post delivery guy and we started to talk. He slept exactly 1,5 hours a day. He trained for that - he thought sleeping longer would be a waste of time. For me, he seemed completely normal. So I guess one deep sleep and one REM phase is enough.

I never sleep on the couch, but I have been for the past few days and I have less pain when I do it, and wake up with less pain. I think that's because my head and neck are elevated that way and it takes some strain off of my back, neck, and shoulders. Plus I have less room to move around so I won't end up in an uncomfortable position.

I've struggled with sleep issues my entire life. Insomnia usually, but I've had depressive periods where I'd sleep 16 hours or more a day. Right now I'm battling with insomnia...again. it's been about 3 weeks of not being able to fall asleep which ends up being a case of falling asleep at 4am and then getting up at 6:30am and then I'm up for a few hours before I go back to sleep for another couple of hours. Broken sleep is so exhausting.
I've tried all sorts of different things to try and help, but it's usually just a matter of waiting out the disruption. Laying here going la dee da dee da in my head hoping sleep comes soon 😆

Oh @AvidFan , I read to bed at 10, at 8:30. I was so excited my “threat worked!” Then I kept reading. 💔
sorry it’s such a struggle!

Thank you. I at least got some sleep last night with my knockout strategy. Still woke ridiculously early and couldn't go back to sleep. It's a bit worrying it took so much to knock me out and that I might have to do it again, but at least something worked to some extent. I feel a tiny bit better today, but it's awful when I wake up and feel Ok for like 10 seconds and then all the worries flood back into consciousness.

Last person awake? Been awake for ever? Giddy? Slap-happy? Tearful? Angry? Manic?
This is your place. Mark yourself “safe from nightmares” and share your thoughts.

Why are you awake? Anxious, nervous, mad, happy, pain, loud neighbors, hot, cold, stormy, scared, no reason?
What time is it? Do you have to be up soon?

Ramblings of an insomniac encouraged.
I'm up taking care of myself the way a trans girl needs to when she's post-op YKW. And I am. So maybe it just ok that I'm awake rn so why am I dreading this threaddeeeee????
It like the question to all my half answers.

BC since I've been back from surgery this is what we do every night.

We turn on the big light. Turn on the iPad... We click on this TV show or that and let it play all night long. Any string of Dick Van Dyke Show does the trick. Keeps me out of dreamland.

I hate sleep. The places I go. The places I'm from. The I don't knows. The strange wild animals not of this earth... And not of this birth. Skyscraper buildings we've never seen before... on this planet anyways.

Now where did I ditch that saucer of mine? Me lead actor of the movie: "Escape To Planet Earth". I must have left for some reason and I'm never going back... Why else would I cling to the dandelion? Love those roots. They deep. They strong. The don't dream. They live life. Live life. We all want to live. And we all want to dream. But what is a dream? Desires? or a past that's chasing you from a place you never been in a world you never saw. But what is the cost? So I turn on the lights and I turn on the TV and watch the shows to drown the night in a world with no dreams. 👩‍🦳

I took pain and sleep meds last night, and of course neither worked. So I might not take them as much if they are ineffective for me. What seemed to work more was just trying to relax as much as I could.
I did the same last night. The relaxation method. And managed to get off admittedly after 2-3 hours of trying with the birds chirping, and knowing it was the time I'd usually be up for work. But glad to have got a couple more hours as I needed them today.
Sending wishes for a peaceful sleep to you.
