I did the same last night. The relaxation method. And managed to get off admittedly after 2-3 hours of trying with the birds chirping, and knowing it was the time I'd usually be up for work. But glad to have got a couple more hours as I needed them today.
Sending wishes for a peaceful sleep to you.
I'm glad you were able to get a few hours of sleep at least. I think that some is better than none, but I wish you more peaceful sleep too.

I am sleeping at odd times.

For example: sleep 4 or 5 hours in the early evening - awake for a couple hours around midnight then sleep around 3 or 4 am for 3 or 4 hours.

Gets the job done but isn't optimal.

I've tried staying up later, but no go. Apparently this body wants to sleep in the early evening.

@Livelife thats quite the collection of products. Sad that you haven't found relief.

Here's wishing everyone restful sleep.

For the first time in ages I drifted off to sleep within half an hour of hitting my pillow and went into a light sleep. About 2 minutes later there was some random bang bang bang noise outside the window, which cut through the white noise I have playing, and I woke up. Looked out the window. Nothing. Went back to bed and at some point managed to drift off again. Woke at 5am, stayed in bed and got maybe another hour then stayed in bed awake until about 8.30am. Had a few dreams so at least got into REM sleep. Period between about 1am-5am shows low curve for heart rate which matches when I was likely sleeping. It's not enough, but amazing how much difference even a few hours of sleep can make.

A few hours does make an enormous difference!

I’m alternating between poor, restless sleep and getting ample sleep via a sedative only to awaken feeling as though I can’t sleep enough, which could be alleviated were there actually a point to waking up. I could either be restless and more vulnerable to despair, or well-rested and better equipped to endure more misery. At any rate, I must content myself to being exhausted.

I think you make a valid point here, mainly that sleep issues are tied to depression issues.

Our overall well being can be dictated by our depression and that includes sleep!

I hope you find a way to feel better!

Thoughts and prayers your way

I'm usually awake around then, too.

Also, I take up to 20mg melatonin for sleep, the increased dose helps me, just a thought.

Be well!
I have read several reports the past 6 months that small doses work better for most… 1-2 mg as opposed to 5-10. And to start with that if newly trying. Children’s melatonin is sold in that amount . Or an adult regular pill if 5-10 mg can be cut too.
And I’m glad you found a level that works well for you!

I actually got some sleep again. I didn't struggle massively going to sleep. I took my amitriptyline, small diazepam dose and lay down. The plan was to take a Sleep Eaze if I struggled falling asleep, but I didn't get round to it as I was out. Woke at 5.30am, got up for a glass of water and then went back to bed and got maybe another couple hours of light sleep. Still wish I could sleep a solid 8 or 9 hours to recover but some is better than nothing at the moment!
