1) Which country are you from?

The US. but like many I claim my state as my country.

2) What is your favourite thing about your country?

The opportunities are there, but nobody is going to hand them to you, you have to go earn and make your way. Many who are most successful started out with nothing but an idea.

3) If I were stuck in your country for a week, where is 1 place I would absolutely have to visit? Or alternatively 1 activity I MUST do?

Harder to define with individual tastes being different and cultures can be different. In this area the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum can be quite interesting. Texas Ranger as in Chuck Norris on TV and not the baseball team. LOL

4) What country have you always wanted to visit and why?

Perhaps a few. Ireland and Germany would be the first two since those are the countries that most of my heritage is from, plus the idea of beer... And German food has always been a favorite of mine. :)

5) Which country has the best Language / Accent? (You can choose your own, and you can choose any regional language/accent of any country)

Germany has a fine language with the structure and rules, on accent I love the old Commonwealth countries.

6) What does your country mean to you?

Home.

1) For all those pet owners, tell us something unusual about your pet, odd habits, unexpected abilities, escape attempts anything.

I am convinced my cat has the power of hypnosis.

2) Tell us about what it takes to take care of your pet?

Not too much, as long as food and water are out along with some toys she is content to be a lazy cat.

3) What aspect of which animal do you REALLY envy?

The freedom of life based on their nature.

4) Have you ever got the chance to work with wild animals, if so, tell us a story, if not, would you if you could?

Never worked with wild ones, but spent and still plenty of time around them.

5) Tell us Why you love animals, just go nuts :D

They are fun to watch and with some eat. I do love the honesty in their behavior. Unless older, or sickly they behave a certain way in mostly predictable manners. Even when wild animals attack other critters or even people it is almost always for a reason, food or protection unlike so many humans.

Alright, for maths lovers :

Two random variables were talking in a bar. They thought they were being discrete but I heard their chatter continuously.
The B in Benoît B. Mandelbrot stands for Benoît B. Mandelbrot.
Infinitely many mathematicians walk into a bar. The first says, "I'll have a beer." The second says, "I'll have half a beer." The third says, "I'll have a quarter of a beer." The barman pulls out just two beers. The mathematicians are all like, "That's all you're giving us? How drunk do you expect us to get on that?" The bartender says, "Come on guys. Know your limits."
An engineer thinks that his equations are an approximation to reality. A physicist thinks reality is an approximation to his equations. A mathematician doesn't care.
Classification of mathematical problems as linear and nonlinear is like classification of the Universe as bananas and non-bananas.

A Table for us all to get warm and fuzzy about those strange concepts of "you cant come here, we claimed this bit".
1) Which country are you from?
U.S.
2) What is your favourite thing about your country?
The land.
3) If I were stuck in your country for a week, where is 1 place I would absolutely have to visit? Or alternatively 1 activity I MUST do? Hmmm that's tough, lots of amazing places and things to see or do. I guess depends what area do the country chosen to visit. Can't go wrong with National parks and we have some awesome museums, caves, hotsprings whatevs
4) What country have you always wanted to visit and why? Too many. Most. Not all. Tonga, to work with whales. And islands fascinate me.
5) Which country has the best Language / Accent? (You can choose your own, and you can choose any regional language/accent of any country) throwdown between the love languages, I'm partial to spanish and french but oooh italian.. all beautiful
6) What does your country mean to you? Imma goahead and not answer that, but if you get to know me the answer to this will become very clear.

1) For all those pet owners, tell us something unusual about your pet, odd habits, unexpected abilities, escape attempts anything. My dog speaks spanglish, he has the ability to make friends with almost anybody, picks up stray cats as friends and brings them home. He has 15 names and knows them all. His god is the wind, he respects that energy higher than any other and it's cool to observe. He climbs trees low enough to climb.
2) Tell us about what it takes to take care of your pet? $$$ I'd say he takes care of me more. He's my best friend idk how to answer
3) What aspect of which animal do you REALLY envy? Monkeys the way they can fly and swing from trees do gymnastics every freaking day kinda pissed evolution took my tail ...ummm MISTAKE
4) Have you ever got the chance to work with wild animals, if so, tell us a story, if not, would you if you could? no, I haven't but I want to very much work with whales and elephants in particular. I would jump at the opportunity probably no matter the animal. (No shark filming no thanks)
5) Tell us Why you love animals, just go nuts :D I identify, I see them, I feel many of them, I feel many of them got the shit end of being able to evolve alot farther than they have because of destrctive human activity. I hope we create a more inclusive world with other species. I cry seeing gorillas in zoos. More people should learn how to communicate with them, respect them and the world would be a better place. Animals amaze me every day.

Thanks Dante for the invite. I'll first enjoy the cold cuts table and when I finish I'll have some mulled wine.
I hope you don't mind that I correct two of the facts, if you do just tell me and I won't do it in again.

2) North Korea and Cuba are apparently the only countries in the world where you cant by Coca Cola.
I bought four Coca Cola cans for a Cuban family that invited me to their house for dinner. It doesn't come directly from US because of the embargo, but sort of *illegal legal* way from Mexico. It can be bought totally legally in some stores for dollars, also some hotels has it and it's pretty expensive. But as Cubans told me, even if they has it, if you order Cuba libre you'll get TuKola in it and they'll keep Coca Cola for themselves.
I'm sure there's plenty of it in Guantanamo too.:D

3) The Canary Islands were named after Dogs, not Birds. The name "Canary Islands" comes from the Italian name "Islas Canarias" which itself comes from the Latin "Canariae Insulae" meaning "Island of Dogs".

There are a few theories about it. One of them says that the expedition of Juba II, the king of Mauretania, found a lot of dogs when they 'discovered' today's Gran Canaria island, and named the islands Canariae Insulae which in Latin means island of dogs. But there is no written evidence at all. It's possible that they saw sea dogs or Berbers tribe named Canarii.
Islas Canarias is Spanish name, Italian would be Isole Canarie.

Thanks for opening the cafe @Dante.

What country have you always wanted to visit and why?
I would like to go to Japan some day as the technology and the culture there is so interesting.

Definitely maths. The full name is mathematics (a plural with an -s on the end), so it only makes sense that the shortened version is also a plural.

Good morning @Dante , thanks for opening and tag.
Thank you for all the interesting facts today!

1) my cat does this funny thing before he drinks his water. He shuffles his front paws. That, and terrorizes whoever comes over because he wants to snuggle.

2) usual food, and litter. And the occasional picking up dead mice and bunnies he leaves as presents 😩

3) all animals (minus human intervention) to live freely. Horse for it's beauty and spirit.

4) I didn't work with them, but when I was married we lived in Big Pine Key, home to the endangered Key Deer, miniature deer. They used to visit us in the yard. Here's a pic to show their size (from Google). Fed a few veggies and before I knew it, 30 little heads were popping up.

National Appreciation Table

1) Which country are you from?

I'm from Brazil.

2) What is your favourite thing about your country?

My favorite thing is our culture and heritage. Many cultures mixed in one.

3) If I were stuck in your country for a week, where is 1 place I would absolutely have to visit? Or alternatively 1 activity I MUST do?

Visit Rio de Janeiro and read a poem to Drummond by the beach. Or if you're on the cultural side, visit MASP, art museum in Sao Paulo.

4) What country have you always wanted to visit and why?

France. The reason is that I'm into cooking and I had actual plans to go there for career reasons (I work in IT) but the TRUE reason would be to try foods and learn a few recipes.

5) Which country has the best Language / Accent? (You can choose your own, and you can choose any regional language/accent of any country)

Well, I think the best language is Greek. It would be nice to live in a country where it is spoken a version of one of the oldest languages there is. As of the best accent I think British -- whatever subset -- although sometimes they sound funny.

6) What does your country mean to you?

My country means a place to live, it's not the most organized or advanced but I still wouldn't trade living here for anywhere else in the world.

Animals Lovers Table

1) For all those pet owners, tell us something unusual about your pet, odd habits, unexpected abilities, escape attempts anything.

I have a caramel cat, he's unexpectedly good at hunting birds. He brings me cicadas, rats and poor sparrows he tears their wings. He could fit in a shoe when I brought him home. Once he got trapped in a cage my neighbor set for the armadillos. He didn't come home that night and I thought I had lost him. Fortunately I found him in the cage, scared but unharmed.

Another time he got inside the neighbor garage hunting whatever brought him there and the neighbor locked him there. My neighbor is an old man I think he didn't pay attention. When I came home Tibo (the cat) started meowing and making a scene so I could rescue him.

2) Tell us about what it takes to take care of your pet?

It's easy. Just got to remember to give him fresh water and food at regular times. I'm more than happy to attend his needs. I also bathe him once every 2 months. He hates it but it's for his good. Cats aren't meant to bathe regularly, it can damage their skin.

3) What aspect of which animal do you REALLY envy?

Tiger's ability to climb trees. Also the siberian tiger can mostly disappear in the woods when there are dry leaves in the ground and it's a really strong and savage animal.

4) Have you ever got the chance to work with wild animals, if so, tell us a story, if not, would you if you could?

I never had the chance. I'd love to. Animals are just great.

5) Tell us Why you love animals, just go nuts :D

What I find fascinating is how little importance they give to screens. I was showing something to my cat on a Samsung tablet and he was more interested in the reflex the sun made on the screen to the walls. Sometimes I listen to heavy metal and it has sound effects of birds and stuff and Tibo is able to discern them from real sounds. There are YouTube videos made specifically for cats, he was interested in these but even then it was clear that real life comes first.

I also think humans in general like animals because we think about pets. If we had more contact with wild animals such as wolves and panthers we wouldn't think so high of them. Civilization could partner with some animals and while I think zebras look nice that doesn't stop them from kicking me or biting me until death.

Tysm for tagging me @Dante & opening the cafe today :) Cool q's, will answer all but a few ;)

4) What country have you always wanted to visit and why?
Lots really but especially Japan, China, England, France, Italy, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Mexico, Australia, Cuba and Brazil.

5) Which country has the best Language / Accent? (You can choose your own, and you can choose any regional language/accent of any country)
Spain or England.

6) What does your country mean to you?
Like what some others put by simply saying - home. Also peacefulness and freedom, I'm very lucky and proud to live here of all places in the world for sure :) ❤ ❤ ❤

1) For all those pet owners, tell us something unusual about your pet, odd habits, unexpected abilities, escape attempts anything.
Lol! Def. have some stories with this since I've had a total of 5 cats and 1 dog as pets in my lifetime. I'll just say some things about our current kitty though.

- She's all black
- Very acrobatic (we're always joking that she could be in a kitty circus with all her acrobat moves lol)
- By far the most fearless kitty I ever knew.
- Fascinated by mirrors, water and shadows
- Enjoys being sneaky by either lurking or outright hiding (usually won't come if we call her lol). :)
She's also very sweet, loving, playful, funny and beautiful, we feel extremely lucky to have her.

2) Tell us about what it takes to take care of your pet?
Aside from the necessary physical health/survival things (food and water) she needs a lot of attention, love, affection and gentleness.

3) What aspect of which animal do you REALLY envy?
Cats cos of being so beautiful, being able to be inside all the time (when they are indoor cats that is), being so small that they can fit in small, out-of-the-way-spaces and all of these things equal not having to be remotely social if they don't feel like it. I envy that, very much lol.

4) Have you ever got the chance to work with wild animals, if so, tell us a story, if not, would you if you could?
No, I've never worked with them.
Yes, I would work with them as long as it was in a safe setting and I felt comfortable with whoever the people were that were there too. Would be interested & curious to give it a try so I could say it's something I'd done at least.

5) Tell us Why you love animals, just go nuts :D
Lol aw heck if it's not obvious by now I have tried extremely hard to keep all my answers very focused and non-rambly in this q & a reply but with a q like this you are making that a huge challenge lol. I love so many things about them, everything really, from their unique, always unconditionally loving personalities, to their adorable physical features (shapes of their ears, tails, fur/feathers/skin/whatever other outer coat they have, eyes, whiskers, paws (or whatever other kinds of legs/feet they have), skin, the funny things they do, the sounds they make and just watching them living their lives in their natural habitats eating, playing, building, hunting and walking. They are just fascinating with how different they all are, it's so inspiring and some of the best that nature has to offer imo :) ❤ ❤ ❤

Yea I often think this, My dad's dog is just so honest, though hyper as anything, but she calmed down a bit after I started visiting. My dad has insane difficulty controlling her out on walks but by how she behaves around me he thinks I wouldnt even need a leash for her. :P And my bother's cat? The epitome of transparency and restraint. (She is well trained and good mannered, so she really is patient)

Thanks Dante for the invite. I'll first enjoy the cold cuts table and when I finish I'll have some mulled wine.

Hey share the wisdom, I have done plenty of these Cafes now, there is no way I just KNEW these, I looked them up, so if I was wrong, SPREAD THE KNOWLEDGE :D The whole point of this is just to get people talking after all.

Good morning @Dante , thanks for opening and tag.
Thank you for all the interesting facts today!

1) my cat does this funny thing before he drinks his water. He shuffles his front paws. That, and terrorizes whoever comes over because he wants to snuggle.
Yea, my brother has a cat and he says it is a throwback to how kittens used to knead their mothers teet to get the milk flowing, they associate the motion with comfort and security and so tend to kneed the ground when they are getting comfortable. Its a good sign.

4) I didn't work with them, but when I was married we lived in Big Pine Key, home to the endangered Key Deer, miniature deer. They used to visit us in the yard. Here's a pic to show their size (from Google). Fed a few veggies and before I knew it, 30 little heads were popping up.

Feel free to ramble, the questions are just meant to be conversation starters anyway, if after the 1st page someone said something awesome, derailed the whole threat and everyone just chatted about that for the rest, then the cafe has done its job. Its a place to chat, you can order on the menu or off. I think I will make a point of telling people that in my next cafe. Ill set aside a "Ramblers Table" :D

Feel free to try question 5 again if you like, if nothing else a little positivity on Suicide Forum is a great thing *thumbup Reading your question 5 already I want a pet now :D

@Dante Thank you for inviting me! Thanks for opening the cafe again. Always fun reading your post. Sorry if I don't have the energy to answer them.

The "The B in Benoît B. Mandelbrot stands for Benoît B. Mandelbrot." one conjured warm memories of my degree, I often forget I have any of those, it reminds me of Set theory and Group theory. I liked the more logic driven modules, it was like finally unravelling the crazy of the world into nice neat lines.

And the infinite mathematicians one, I remember PROVING it would be 2 at university :D

and the "An engineer thinks that his equations are an approximation to reality. A physicist thinks reality is an approximation to his equations. A mathematician doesn't care." one always makes me think of this XKCD comic:

Yeah, I didn't have such modules at university unfortunately as Maths wasn't my major. My maths courses were called Mathematics 1, 2 and 3, lol. And frankly, it tended towards mathematical engineering more and more with each one, no pure maths anymore. *blue

Isn't that something you had to prove in high school when learning about limits?
