I don't know how much more I can take of these so called "influencers" spreading horrible misinformation on various topics, that can actually put people at greater risk of destroying their health or risking getting preventable diseases. I swear to ********* 😤

I could carry on with this tangent but I need to compose myself. I have spent a week, a freaking week, trying to educate people properly about sun exposure, skin cancer, the differences in how these "toxic subscreens" don't cause skin cancer but the sun does, and how there ARE safer alternatives if people prefer a cleaner version of sun screen. They will argue until they are blue in the face with illogical, unscientific false information because they believe these uneducated, NON-doctor influencers online. There are studies, data, copious amounts of information and facts out there that can give them irrefutable proof....and they STILL choose ignorance. It is great to question things, but when you question things, get an answer and refuse to accept facts it is just choosing ignorance. 🤦

It's like a modern reprise of the "snake-oil" salesman that roamed the midwest in the frontier days. They do it because it makes them money. People getting hurt along the way doesn't matter if you are making money. I think at one point municipalities on up to state governments might pass some sort regulations that say if you give false information on social media, and someone gets hurt following it, then they can sue you for damages.

but re: sunscreen - I used to live in AZ. A friend of mine said his dermatologist said she advised sunscreen on head and face at least, even if you are just running to the car and driving to a building. So no amount of time is safe. Unfortunately I got so freaked by that that I stopped going outside at all, and now I'm working on getting my outdoorsy-ness back. It would be nice if the process of natural selection would weed out some of these reckless people, but they seem to keep reproducing so I guess we're stuck with them.

You hit the nail on the head with the snake-oil.

I can definitely understand that causing worry and fear. I hope you can get back outdoors and enjoy it more like you used to.
I was constantly worried about excessive sun exposure, so much that I pretty much wear sleeves and pants year round. My skin has always been so sensitive but it's gotten worse as I have gotten older. So I only wore it as a kid. Then I stopped going outside (mainly because of my depression) and then it turned into this mega fear of skin cancer. Anytime I go out I wear my uv protective sleeves. (I recommend them,, theres multiple types sone cooling, which are great) But I want to find a nice sunscreen for my face, neck and fingers now that has a cleaner formula and be good for sensitive skin. I am working on trying to get out more and enjoying it too myself.

Logged in to check my student portal, check on updates and things like that. Come to find out they have f*cked up all of my info and the advisor who said she "needed to check on things" NEVER did 😤

So here i have sat for the last 3 hours going over everything, reading over everything in my student profile and academic info finding what the hell they have done.

Apparently, back in 2002 (I was 11 years old then) it shows that I was at the college and I have a "continued education" program. What it was, was I was in a special school program for "exceptionally good grades" for students, As & Bs. So this random woman came along to our school I was accepted in the program and I did 1, only 1, special opportunity class at the college for a week for art. So my college is showing that in 2002 I applied for "continued education " (which I did not, the college or the people from the program had created an account unbeknownst to me or even my parents). Now thats not all. It shows there is a 2nd program for associates in fine art, however the date from the catalog it "came from" shows "2016" and it has a drop down box showing other catalogs from "2010-2015". However, both of these programs have blue boxes at the top stating "no program requirements needed" for those. I applied specifically for the medical office administration program and applied as a new student because I was never informed I was going to be applied back then when I chose to accept the art class.

Why am I the one having to dig through and find all of this information and put it all together and tell the community college what they need to do? 😤

Because of this crap, the pell grant i was given is being denied to me because it is claiming that I "already have a bachelors degree" which I DO NOT!

I am so beyond frustrated with the college, their lack of concern or urgency, their apathy and just overall inability to do their jobs. With as much work and effort I have had to put into applying, getting my stuff together and in order, I already feel exhausted and part of me is just so fed up and angry to the point I don't want to even go to college now. And it pisses me off. But I have made plans for myself and I am dead set on achieving these plans and goals of mine. So I intend to get it straightened out so I can start college this fall.

Maddening how much people just disregard hard data to follow their gut instinct, eh?

This is an entirely tangential response, but I'm desperate so I'll say it anyway: Where in the actual heck can I find uv protection that is cooling, or at least doesn't trap my body heat and the infrared light from the sun along with it? I've tried a few that didn't live up to their marketing promise of being cooling, but instead turned out to be no better than a long sleeved cotton shirt I could get for $10 or sometimes less. Any suggestions? If it feels more comfortable please send me a DM and I'll get that, too.

Regarding sunscreen for sensitive skin - Neutrogena used to have a super smooth facial covering that was SPF 70 or so. That got discontinued and I haven't found an acceptable replacement. The rest of the Neutrogena sunscreens are too thick and greasy. I ended up in a dermatologist's office for an unrelated issue and I grabbed some samples of mineral sunscreen that they had placed in little bowls all over the place. So, if you already work with a dermatologist maybe you could raid their office for samples, lol. The next idea I have is to try a multi-step integrated facial care routine that includes sunscreen. Usually these follow a formula of: cleanse, tone, moisturize, SPF product, in that order. I was thinking maybe something that came along with a cleanser and toner bundle might work for that, and I need the other stuff anyway. Still trying to gather info on that, tho.

I can see that being enraging. Unfortunately I have had several similar experiences but with different transactional relationships that the one you have with the college. The Pell grant getting rescinded must be especially stressful. I feel really unsafe when I have to tell a service provider how to do their job. I am paying them for their expertise. If I have to transfer my expertise to them in order to get what I need, then they should be paying me.

Why - I'm guessing that because the college is probably running on a tiny budget and don't have enough staff or software to keep track of things properly. If so, then the way to get around their bureaucratic maze would be to show up at the advisor's office or the registrar's office in person, with the letter from the gov't about the Pell grant getting clawed back. I found out that this works quite by accident in my past. I was having similar college student database problems, and calling or emailing either returned no reply, or a nonsensical response. It just happened that I was near the registrar's office for a different errand and I decided to pop my head in and see what's keeping them so occupied. I got the issue resolved on that day. There's something about showing up in person that increases responsiveness. On the phone they can just dump your call to another dept and keep going until you've gone full circle. Emails are even easier to disregard. However a human face will generally motivate a kinder response, e.g., not making you stand around for days waiting for someone.

In another platform, I was trying to be an investigative journalist trying to break a lie from this one person and when i asked for whoever has this one detail so I can connect the dots, an asshole commented with a meme and a message that she doesnt have it

so i responded that to anyone who can cooperate, and can do math and has that evidence then work with me.

Then she commented again that she has deleted that

i ignored her twice by sending the evidence i have gathered instead, and told them to finish what i started if they want answers because I’m not putting any more effort if none of you are taking this seriously and all of you would rather goof around and make AI memes.

and someone commented just now they’re not good in math for fuck’s sake then dont fucking reply then you idiot and stay out of the way.
