So I mentioned before how I tape lighters to a pipe because I only have one good hand.
Most recently, I used pink tape and a blue lighter. After I noticed that it kinda looked like the trans flag, I added a strip of white to it to complete the illusion, and I’ve already gotten a shitty comment about it (luckily I’m big and scary looking, so usually all I have to do is stand up and look at the person to end a confrontation).
Question for the trans folk (I know you’re here, but unless you talk about it a lot, I forget who you are): would it be weird or offensive to pretend I was AFAB in that moment? Because I’m pretty sure that’d make my 6’4” bearded self blow their minds.

As a trans man, I think it would be kinda funny. As long as you're not saying anything to make trans people look bad or trying to force your way into trans spaces or something, I don't see a big issue there. But that's just me, so hopefully somebody else has some input because I would feel uncomfortable if my words were the only influence on this.
Nah, it would just be to freak out assholes. I wouldn’t lie under any other circumstances. I’d be acting like myself (probably more pissed off than usual, but no different than I usually would if someone’s being an asshole).
I just think it would add to the “I really fucked with the wrong person” feeling they get when they finally pay attention to who they’re talking to.

A formative memory and a weirdly happy one.
When I was small, 4 or 5, my family went out to celebrate something with a big seafood dinner. Mostly crab and lobster.
My grandfather immediately afterward had his stroke (why I was thinking of this). He fell to the ground, babbled some nonsense, crapped himself and passed out right in front of me out of nowhere. It was pretty scary. In the memory, I was vaguely aware of someone standing right behind me (this is important later).
Anyway, I’ve never eaten crab or lobster since then. I like most seafood. I grew up on the coast, eating at an excellent restaurant attached to a fish market (which that same grandfather took me to every weekend). Just never crab or lobster.
So my family had another get-together 20 something years later. Someone commented on neither my older sister or I eating the crab. Before I could say anything, she told the exact same story about my grandfather having the stroke. Turns out she was the person I vaguely remember standing next to me.
My sister and I are very different people. You’d never guess we were related (and that’s before you get into the fact that I’m adopted and we look very different).
But the fact that we share something that specific in common makes me feel closer to her even now. Like “aww, I really do have siblings.”
Not having anyone to spend time with isn’t always exactly the same as being alone. Trying to remember that helps a little.

Whenever somebody tries to argue with me online, I tell them I don’t talk to bots. Then, whatever they say to convince me they’re a real human, I say “That’s exactly what a bot would say.”
Eventually they either give up or I keep them on the hook with arguments about whether a bot would even realize it’s a bot.
I figure about 1/3 of people I’ve done this to actually are bots, and about 1/3 are professional shit-stirrers who argue all day for peanuts, and don’t believe half of what they’re saying.
The internet is a friendlier place since I started.
Eventually they either give up or I keep them on the hook with arguments about whether a bot would even realize it’s a bot.

I’ve got a step-nephew. A couple of them actually, but I’m talking about one in particular. I usually leave the “step“ part out because I’m adopted; I’m not biologically related to any of my family, so I don’t gaf about that, but it’s relevant that he hasn’t known me his whole life like my other nephews.
Anyway, a few years ago, I walked in on him watching anime. I was looking at the screen to see what he was watching, and he started explaining what anime was and it was really clear that he was expecting me to start giving him shit over it.
I still remember the way his face lit up when I told him that I watched it too and just didn’t recognize his show (Hajime no Ippo) and we got into a conversation about it, and I recommended a few older shows.
This is aside from the fact that I was never inclined to give him shit about anything, but I think he knows that a bit better now.
That was a few years ago, but when we see each other we still compare notes about what we’re watching and recommend/tell the other to avoid shows they haven’t seen yet.
Anyway, it’s very flattering when young people treat the things I like as still relevant. A part of me dies a little when I hear those things referred to as “old” or “retro,” but still.
