Recently gotten into two new bands. New Year's Day and Ice Nine Kills. I highly recommend listening to INK's 'The Silver Scream' album. Amazing stuff!

So this album came out 3 years ago today. It's a bit more aggressive and more guitar focused than some of their other stuff which is one of the reasons I really like this album. Wasn't a fan of this song the first time I heard it but probably one of my favorites now.

Admittedly not the biggest Dream Theater fan but this album is pretty damn good. This song is probably my favorite, a strong message and some pretty heavy riffs. And that solo, I was pretty convinced that it wasn't possible until I watched a cover of it.

And a cover of the solo, in case anyone needs convincing that it is humanly possible like I did(no it's not me)

It is a bonus song of the Quantum Enigma album. They have a bunch of those! This one is my favourite but it's never been played live. If everything goes as planned, I should go see them soon again. Their concerts are so much fun.
hahaha I had to look for a minute... and you know what?! I am there! :wow: But I'm hidden by the girl in the front, there is only my arm awkward in the air, surely mine because I always do this weird thing with my hand. I am so short compared to all these Dutch giants. I can clearly see my best friend though.

Oh ok, it could definitely be a main song by them, the main melody is really cool and I like the lyrics, which I don't always with Epica, but they're always delivered perfectly.
I was just taking a guess based on the knowledge that you wear glasses and I could see two girls with glasses in that frame. : )

They just make too many songs per album and pick the ones that are most coherent lyric/theme-wise, but they're all worth it. This is one of the best ones for sure.
I like all their lyrics, they really get deep and political and philosophical and everything. lol

That's a good way to do things from a writing standpoint. I like some of their lyrics but sometimes they're a bit too positive for me. Off the top of my head I think of Kingdom of heaven when Simone sings the part "Life is meaningful" and the rest of the lyrics for that sections, something about that just doesn't sound good to me. Like it should really go without saying. But I like that it's different from the dark lyrics that are the norm in metal.

I grew up listening to Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies mostly. I can dig old Sepultura and Anthrax, 80's Metallica....There was a lot of crossover between genres in the early 90's.... Hip Hop, funk, hardcore,... it was an exciting time for music, not just metal. I even liked some nu metal stuff, I still do btw. I don't consider myself a metalhead, I don't dress like a metalhead and I don't consider myself being cool for listening to metal. There are times I don't even listen to metal at all, imagine that... At the end of the day music is just a bunch of notes and chords being played, all the rest is BS.

Just finished listening to The Great Southern Trendkill by Pantera, maybe their most progressive album...

There's an official video of this song, but frankly, I think this performance video does the song and the band greater justice. It's a powerful song off of a great album. Shame they split up late last year, but at least they went out on a high note.

This is the song I've quoted in my signature. Its probably towards the softer end of the spectrum for this thread, but I think it it fits.... Well, at least it fits enough for my gothic metal and Heart loving booty. If not, then I'll make-up for it later with some Incantation or something, 'kay?

The video is funny, this is how I look at myself in the mirror looking for wrinkles. lol

I was more joking than anything with the heaviness thing, there are always gonna be people who complain if something isn't the heaviest of the heavy. Those guys are funny. Unintentionally so, but they make me laugh nonetheless.

Floor is wonderful. She's been an inspiration to me and.... uhhhh.... the object of a longstanding crush of mine. *blushes* I've never had a chance to see her live though, when I saw Nightwish, it was waaaaaay back when Tarja was still the vocalist (they were amazing, btw). Maybe next time they come out my way I'll fight through my various problems (or better yet, have them under control) and make it out to a show.

DSBM.... Now there was something I never really got into. I like black metal (mostly 90s stuff, yes I'm old), but I was already depressive and suicidal enough. It was good weed music back in my stoner days. Used to get high and let my mind drift with the trace-like drone. Took some pretty epic mental journeys.

OK Nightwish...my favourite band and I'm dying to attend their concert...

It was even the first concert of my life, I was 15yo, and it changed my life. Very emotional.

Hey, I was 15 when I went to my first concert, but it was nowhere as cool as Nightwish. I saw the Presidents of the United States of America. If you never heard them, they were a goofy one-album wonder, grunge-lite band who had a few novelty hits in the mid nineties. It was a fun night out, but yeah, not exactly the coolest first show. lol

My Nightwish experience was ten years later, I saw them on the Once tour, just as they were starting to break-out internationally, well, outside of Europe anyway. I'd discovered them via Century Child, the album before that. I heard "End of All Hope" on a late night radio show on some long forgotten and probably gone station. It was so bombastic and dramatic, and I just fell for Tarja's voice instantly.

The weird thing about the show I saw was that it was part of her final tour with the band before that UGLY break-up, yet it was by far the happiest concert experience I've ever had. So many smiles (as opposed to the posturing and scowls at SO many metal gigs), lots of Nemo toys from the Disney movie, Finding Nemo, in the audience. The band were tight as hell, Tarja and Marco's voices were in top form, the vibe was just great. It's a memory I'm VERY pleased to have.

Thinking about all this, I REALLY need to go see them next time they're in my area.

Okay, so here's the song I got my Custom Title from. It's a gothic metal tune by one of my all-time favourite bands, Sentenced. It's not one of my absolute favourite songs by them, I probably like the lyrics more than the song, but hey, it's still a good 'un.

So the first time I listened to it I didn't really have an opinion on on it either way but after a few more listenings, the new Slipknot album is actually really good.
